I’ve been a consumer bankruptcy associate for 3 years pay is 65k. The other attorneys at the firm only do confirmation matters. I handle Mislc. motions, orders, confirmations, 341 hearings, mass court appearances, 85% of client calls for random nonsense and anything random that comes up. I was told I can only get a raise if I take on more responsibilities. This can’t be normal???? What practice areas can i shift to with such a niche field?

How do you strategize when assignments are largely not urgent? I had several files that were longer-term and I had a long time to work on them, but I just wasn’t motivated to do so and kept working on shorter term things instead, and now they’re all coming due and some are blowing up because I didn’t organize/prioritize well. Anybody struggling with fellow associates in big law? Typically, when HR asks me for my salary expectations, they're the first interview, so I punt and say something to the effect of "I need to learn more about the position and its requirements." With HR being last, however, I can't really say that. What would you recommend I say to get them to make the "opening bid"?
