What’s the best benefit at your firm?
Hi All
Please hit like so I can have DM enabled.
Oh. This is an interesting topic. Really made me realize a lot of things in the point of view of a teacher.
We are included in the 96%. We offer these services to the kids but I know they are not really effective because of some factors.
I'm deeply appreciative that we now have the opportunity to give kids these days access to mental health services especially after all the things they get exposed to that's beyond our control.
This is nice. I also wanted to advocate about paying attention into the students' mental health and how we could be of help to them. Thank you for sharing this.
40% is quite a large number for ineffectiveness. I hope they address this properly. A lot of people can benefit from this especially at their tender age.
Very interesting read. What are your thoughts OP?

OH My Gosh! I have to reread that article and I plan to do so. I’ll probably read it a few times. There’s a lot of dissecting to do lol
I thought it looked interesting upon first read.
We are also among the 96% who offer mental health services to the kids in our district. It is tough bc we need more mental health services but there is such a shortage of services as well as funding. I also question where does it cross the line and should it be on the parents or should it be on the school? Schools don't treat medical issues such as colds? so why should the schools be responsible for funding medical dx of mental illnesses? Just as much as migraines (which is a medical diagnosis) can interfere with schooling so can a dx of depression. So why is the school funding one but not the other?

Nobody is diagnosing your students in the school (mental health or otherwise). I can speak to that. Additionally, nobody is doing true ‘therapy’ because the very nature of therapeutic process it is totally not conducive to an educational setting. It just can’t work and frankly doesn’t. We also get parent consent before working w any student which actually means now we’re working with the family as well.
Do we intervene on deeper issues such as conflict, apathy, outward signs of distress, yes. It’s totally NOT true therapy but can be very therapeutic in nature. All staff can be therapeutic without engaging in ‘therapy’.
