Interesting thought occurred: why has the rhetoric and narrative and culture of leftism grown increasingly combative, hysterical and militant, even though society has trended left decade after decade?
For example, the hallmark of the 60’s civil rights movement was nonviolent disobedience, and we’ve made lightyears of progress since then, and yet the Left is getting ferociously more agitated and aggressive by the week…. What’s causing this?

14 republicans in the house voted against making Juneteenth a federal holiday, in the year 2021. Emancipation day, something that should have been recognized as such long, long ago. You know, the day when millions of people were freed from the tortures of slavery. You’re complaining about “combativeness” on the left. Just take a step back, take a deep breath, and let that sink in.

So true. The left just seems to want to fight and argue with this nonexistent mirage. It’s strange. They are the ones that come off as the loons they pretend to dispel.

Wow. Project much? Who lynched 4,743 people? Who elected George Wallace and Bull Connor? Who blew up the Murrah Building? Who murdered people in Charleston and Charlottesville? Who stormed the Capitol? Who believes in pedophile cannibals and Jewish space lasers? Yah. The left is for sure the problem.

TL1 bringing the solid analysis as per usual. I personally deplore any kind of civil unrest but I do see at least the outlines of why people could feel that aspects of it were if not necessarily “justified” per se, why there’s a certain inevitability to some of this when other avenues for change appear so closed off.

I am disappointed by the responses of some dems, certainly too. That said, the vast majority of the protests were peaceful - and much of the looting and violence had nothing to do with the protests and the left - and simply was criminals etc. taking advantage of the charged environment. The ridiculous conflation is that somehow coordinated criminals who say, looted stores were ideologically part of any sort of BLM or left group is not terribly plausible

You guys wonder why everyone talks about reforming education. It's because you didn't learn actual history. You learned something sanitized.

You learned one or two Martin Luther King quotes, but not his actual teachings

You certainly didn't learn about Weather Underground, which was likely the most violent left in the past 100 years, and, well, in the 1960s.

They built bombs. Bombs. Is anyone today building bombs? Well, actually, I do think a few Trump voters tried. Just like the anti abortionists kept doing in the 90s.

Because many operate solely off of emotion and not logic so once you can create the perception that things are not actually better and that everything is terrible, racist, sexist, ableist, homophobic and every other ism, you can then manipulate them to be as angry or as happy as the media or other puppet masters need them to be.

Step out of the Fox News Bubble. Every time a Democrat is elected and occupies the WH, the world is going to end. The irony is that you don’t see as many protests across the country and violence post Inauguration yet Fox has portrays the country as falling into anarchy. lol

Do you have any empirical evidence to prove this trend besides personal “observations?” The ‘60s were also not as nonviolent as you may think. Another question, since we’re using broad generalizations: why is the “right” continuously the largest source of domestic terrorism?

like

Sorry OP, when you claim that the 60s civil rights was all about non-violence, it’s obvious you need to read up on your American history.

like

Setting aside the absurdity of your premise, progressives are angry that a minority of old white people consistently overturn the will of the majority despite their views being broadly unpopular.

like

While certainly not the whole cause, I think the internet enabling the most radical voices to be the loudest, most repeated voices is playing a profound role. You see the same insane ideas repeated a couple dozen times and suddenly it seems like that's the predominant mode of thought. Most Americans are not great at thinking critically (or at least choose not to most of the time) and instead opt to follow the perceived heard mentality while trying to shoehorn facts into their existing worldview. And thus radicalism spreads. It's very cult-like, just occurring in a dispersed, decentralized way.

like

OP, can you provide some background to your cultural observation? Potentially citing specific examples? Without specific examples, perhaps your question should be more focused on determining the actual state of the left rather than assuming your potentially limited experiences correspond to the broader view?

To be clear, OP, without evidence to support the core premise of your question, I can see two possible reasons for your question. Firstly, you have had a failure in critical thinking and are now sticking to a premise that you do not have evidence to support. If this is the case, I’d recommend taking some courses on critical thinking and the application of logic. Alternatively, you are intentionally arguing in bad faith with the attempt of deliberately antagonizing people who dispute your premise. If this is the case, I have no advice for you.

like

Do all these facts actually convince OP of the fallacy of his statement, or even nudge him to think critically?

I think the piling on is just sensible people saying “whaaa”. Notably these pile ons you’re describing generally involve data and facts; whereas our right leaning friends here seem to just call us communists and sheeple.
