One of those rare Ocassions my LOL is true laughing our loud (alone, in this hotel room) at the above C1.
Who the ef uses fucktard anymore 😂 picturing my weirdo managers of the past.
OP give your intern a break geez. It's an internship for godsake why are you making their life miserable.
Go into the office tomorrow and give him a pat on the back for mastering the section on managing upwards. Everyone needs to be managed even in the reverse pecking order or however your holier than though ranking system is in your head.
Holy shit. This is like that scene from Inception when the horde finds out the manager isn't part of the dream and starts chasing after him.
OP is the reason why management gets a bad rep. Truly sorry for whoever is unfortunate enough to have you as their manager.
Hi all, I wanted to take a moment to follow up on this post. First and foremost, I'd like to thank those of you that called me out for being a dickbag; my post here was irrationally angry to say the least.
There were some other preceding interactions with the intern regarding status and expected timeline of said deliverable which in my mind lent credence to what felt like being hounded by a junior team member unnecessarily (and of course I wasn't withholding the deliverable, nor did I stop working to make a stupid post - I made my stupid post afterwards 😉). The bottom line is, those details don't matter. This was a coachable moment for the intern and an exercise in patience for myself.
The thought that they might read this post is truly mortifying and I'm ashamed that I did so. I didn't sleep well last night thinking about it. The fact is, working with young people has become one of the unexpected joys of my career and I would never do harm to someone's career (or prospective career) for something so trivial.
Thanks for keeping me grounded.
OP.... You need to STFU and get out of here with your insecurities. What a douche.....
Pecking order? Is fucktard even a word? Hope i never get on a project with that manager.
OP don't take your incompetence out on an intern.
6:30pm? Half day..
OP has unsubscribed from his own post... Not quite what he was expecting. Kind of reminds me of the manager who got on here in hope of a laugh about the new analyst who checked in a bag and in their opinion "wouldn't last long in consulting". Welp fb certainly wasn't on their side
Fuck you OP. Hope I never interact with you in the firm.
But jeez you guys really went hard on a dude who tried to be funny and wasn't. It happens. Not everyone is the next "Pooja"
Nice follow up, OP. I admire that you used this as developmental for you.
Bravo OP! Not many people would admit any wrong doing. I have a lot more respect for you now. I hope the rest of your interactions go well with this intern moving forward.
C1: I hate little fucktards that don't understand what's expected of them, or respect the pecking order. I'm sure your tenure with nameless firm will mirror that of my intern
C1: look at you talking out of your ass to someone you don't know. Interactions on anonymized social media have nothing to do with productivity. This app is best used to allow us to commiserate and develop a sense of awareness and community across our industry - what good does it do to attack someone's use of punctuation in such an environment where "lolz" are pervasive?
Calling out both OP and C1 for overreacting / being a little too harsh. OP - don't be an asshole - we've all been there and our job is to develop these interns. Not to mention, when this intern goes back to campus and talks about how god-awful her internship was because she worked with an awful manager, that reflects unfortunately on the whole firm. Let's not be that firm. C1, I have definitely used double !! occasionally - jumping down someone's throat and calling them out as a fucktard is unnecessary.
OP seems a wee bit insecure
I suggest giving very direct feedback. Sit her down and say plainly "When you called me the other day about that deliverable, it was frustrating to me as a manager, and here's why ________. I'm letting you know this, because I want you to do well here, and I thought you should know that this is how our culture is, and it may not be well received by other people in the firm if you do that in the future. Does that make sense? What are your thoughts about this feedback?"
Low key what's this Pooja stuff....I'm out of the loop
Manager OP: -10. World: 100. OP is currently hiding in a cave.
Glad you are introspective enough to see that. Remember that one day those "junior" people may have to have your back one day! Develop talent and help them shine. You'll rise with them. It's all a firm has to sell. Lose the hierarchical mentality and think about someone besides yourself and I think you'll be surprised at the result on both ends.
