Honestly as someone who grew up in a predominately white area, especially when my parents’ ideal of a good life is modeled after the typical white nuclear family and the reason why they moved to the US, it took a long time to undo the internalized racism. Especially when all I wanted to do was to “be white” and fit into those ideals
Same here. It took a lot work to learn to be proud
Lots of little things you can do to fight this.
Show your children examples of successful, strong, beautiful Asians so they have role models. Make sure the people they look up to aren’t all just stereotypical white people.
Don’t give your kids white names (never understood this one). White people can learn how to say Schwarzenegger and Strombolopolous. They can learn other names too.
I have never had anyone who's not Asian crack an Asian joke to my face. And I've dated far more Asian women than non-Asian women.
What is it exactly that you want? For all Asians to constantly be on the hunt for anything that could be perceived as a slight, and to go forth and procreate so there are more Asian people?
Why do you assume that mixed children, or interracial couples somehow diminishes the ability for children of fully Asian couples to be proud and confident global citizens? You make a whole lot of assumptions there in your comment…
Yeah, as somehow who didn’t grow up here the level of self hatred in some AA is definitely off-putting. Gave up trying to understand it.
I grew up in white areas and my parents have taught me to fit in. That’s really it. We change our real names to American names. Almost no other racial group does that.
