International gifts into a NY 529 account- how does one go about it if the donor (foreign parent making the gift) does not have a US bank account? If the foreign parent transfers the money into the recipient’s US resident’s bank account and the recipient then transfers it into the 529, will there be a tax or other issue? What forms does one need to fill from a tax perspective?

It seems partners are much more flexible with associates who have kids than with those who don’t. If it’s okay for my colleague with a kid to leave at 5 pm and log on later, why isn’t that the same for me (no kids)? My obligations might be different, but I still have a life and want to be able to do certain things, like catch that evening workout class or cook dinner for my partner. As you can probably tell, my firm is operating 100% in person. There is no point here — I’m just whining.

How is maternity leave for equity partners handled at your firm? I’ll be the first female equity partner at my firm to have a baby (which is insane, but let’s set that aside) so there’s no policy at this point. I think the other partners are looking to me for suggestions, but I’m not sure what to propose. Would love to hear how other firms handle this. In case it’s relevant, I work at a boutique firm in Chicago.

Anyone have difficulties with their Mother in Law? I am married to an only child (son), and beginning to feel suffocated and resentful of all my in laws expect from us. I do like them, but that doesn’t mean I want to spend every other weekend with them. We tried to gently set some boundaries (which my husband delivered), and it didn’t go over well with them.
