Interviewed for a HR Manager position today virtually over zoom & one Director had her camera on & the other Director had her camera off? I thought that was weird? Also, has any HR Professionals during the interview stage been asked to supply “writing samples” of an involuntary termination script and an example of a PIP? Not sure how I feel about supplying this information? This is a first for me … Any information is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Since the interview already happened there’s not enough info to go off of why one of the cameras were off. I was a panelist in an interview and my colleagues’ kid had a total meltdown and they had to close the camera and I kept going. Other times I have people who are neurodiverse and can contribute better without being seen. Some people just don’t feel a need to be visible since they have audio. I’ve also had micromanaging leaders invisible but present so they can have input in the decision through observation. While they should have explained who and why and how the interview would be conducted, there’s simply not enough info.

Providing an actual PIP and script from scratch is a lot of work. Can you ask them ti clarify if they’re having you fill out a PIP or they want you to create one? In both cases, role playing and walking the panel through via video is way better than written. It seems they don’t understand how to create an effective written assessment, or think they’re being extra smart to gauge your response and note your writing and communication skills. I would reach out and ask if you can record yourself conducting an involuntary term or relaying a PIP instead. Is this possible?

Thank you for your response. They want me to produce the final documents. Meaning my final PIP version and final termination email. You bring up great follow up questions to ask.

Is that weird? Not really. Many reasons why someone wants to be off camera. That’s not a deal-breaker.

Writing sample is required? Easy! Provide it. Done.

No big deal. You’re overthinking, my friend.

Should I complain to a firm's HR if the interviewers laughed at my answer during an interview? Maybe it sounded scripted but it was still heartfelt and genuine: my immigration story and how that made me appreciate the rule of law. I said it soo many times during OCI's that maybe it eventually sounded robotic, but for the interviewers to laugh and one to say sarcastically "nice elevator pitch", I thought was rude. Thoughts?

This is my first job in a large corporate company, and I’m trying to gauge how long it normally takes to move from entry level to another internal position in the insurance industry. I have been applying internally for a year now and I am wondering if this is normal or if my company is just slow? I am a top performer, with great metrics, and I have some wonderful connections I’ve made who support me. I just can’t seem to move up. How long did it take you to move up? How many tries did it take?

First time poster here!

After spending 4 years as a mid-level ops manager, I tried to break into HR through talent acquisition. Now after 6 years in TA, I've had a hard time getting out of it. My goal was always to get into a more broad HRBP position, but I've since worked for smaller orgs without a solid HR career path. When I ask about my career goals, they keep telling me, "Soon!" Or "Maybe in 6 months!"

I'm testing SPHR in June. Any advice for securing the type of role I'm aiming for?
