I think you should bring this up in your next discussion/whenever you get your offer letter. You can propose WFH for a certain number of days or an increase in comp. to make up for the extra nanny hours caused by your commute. If you love the position I would continue the interview process, voice your concerns and negotiate...the worst they can say is no.

I think this is the way to go. I don’t want to sound pushy if they already said clearly that they want the person in 5 days a week. But there must be some exceptions to this policy and if not, then it really wouldn’t hurt to know that about this company (which otherwise claims to offer a great work life balance)

I am from NYC. 1 hr is standard

I would try negotiating by sharing this. Maybe share that you can do 3 days a week for a month and that after 6 months you can make it 5 days a week. Over communicate so they can make their decision with all the facts.

If you’re going to move closer to work then I’d say fine. Personally I’ve enjoyed the WFH convenience and am a single parent also. So unless my current position wants me in the office 5x a week, I’d also take that into account. As far as the drive, I’d personally feel miserable. I had a 1.5 hr commute, but took the train so not TOO bad, but if I had to drive, I wouldn’t

I guess I am just wondering if I should stop the interview process or try to negotiate a day or two from home

If they have brought up that they would like someone that will be in the office 5x/week I think I would tell them I would only be interested in moving forward if there was flexibility on the WFH schedule

Yes, the HR brought it up without me asking. The next two interviewers did not mention it.

Life of non-immigrants depend on the Visa they hold and it’s so sad these companies don’t have a team where we can speak to someone immediately in case of a visa emergency situation . In EY you need to submit a form and wait for days together to get a reply from a human. Mean time you would have gone through 5 anxiety attacks.
