Interviewing for a security assurance analyst position with Twilio and some of the stuff I’ve been reading makes me nervous. Any Twilio people here that can speak to overall company culture and work/life balance?

The pace is fast and the bar is high. That said, there is a big emphasis on balance. Everyone respects your life outside of work and we have small things like no-meeting Fridays.

If you’re having trouble or second thoughts - reach out to the recruiter you’re working with when I went through the process they helped me out and set me up with other people (outside of the process) to talk to.

Just an example: I left mid day during a huge project to go to my kid’s parent teacher conference. No questions asked and was told to have a good weekend.

You will be busy, but when you need focus time or time away to take care of life - you’ll have the support.

Been at twilio for less than a year but it's the best place I've ever worked. Culture is great though there are issues due to massive employee growth over the last few years but overall it's great. Security is of utmost importance in this space so I'd imagine there may be some pressure but I'd imagine less than at a smaller company. Everyone I've met here has been super helpful all while being remote.

At the end of the day I think you should trust the feeling you’re getting from the interview process. I’m connected with a few people on LinkedIn who work there and seem to really enjoy it. I’m sure experience varies from person to person but it’s definitely possible to have a positive experience.

I think that’s a good perspective. I’m just going to do my best to be thoughtful with my questions and get the answers I need to make a good decision.

Haven't heard anything too terrible. Just that it can be a bit fast paced over there thats all.

I have a connection that only worked there for 9 months (quit two weeks ago) - just said the company culture wasn’t a good fit (I know that’s vague)

I think Twilio is one of those company cultures in which a person is either going to thrive or be miserable. I would ask questions and try to get a sense of it during the interviews.

like

It's a growing company so there will be pressure. But I am sure there will be support when needed. Did you end up taking the offer?

I have just started interviewing I haven’t interviewed since starting with PwC 6 years ago. It seems for 2 of my interviews they noted they will provide feedback, i.e separate from an offer. One person actually apologized for not providing feedback sooner. My question is 1. is this the new normal to get feedback after an interview and 2. are you expected to respond.

Was extended & accepted verbal offer for internal role. Waiting to hear back on signing formal offer. I had dream seeing my husband collapse but I think it’s related to stress & anxiety of waiting. New mgr needs to speak to my current mgr to agree on start date. This company you had to get approval to apply for jobs so boss does know I want to leave. I want to leave because of boss. It hasn’t been good working with boss, idk if boss will say bad stuff to new mgr but I need to get out.

AmLaw200 I interviewed with will likely go with a “more experienced candidate”. I’ve got 8 years and its a staff attorney role so whatever. Partner I met with was rushed from the start like he had already made up his mind. Pissed because they knew from the recruiter that I was a “diverse” candidate and they sent me the Mansfield self-identification survey days before they actually requested an interview.

Hi guys! I’m hoping to get your insights on this: I have been exploring job opportunities and applied for a position at a big company, i later found out that the hiring manager asked someone about me (someone who I’ve dealt with on a couple projects). That person is not on my list of references. I feel like someone who doesn’t truly know me is being put in a powerful position to determine my “fate”. Their judgement of me could be completely subjective. Is this situation normal?

I'm afraid I won't be marketable if I take this new role. So far apps to fully remote roles have been unsuccessful. Thoughts are appreciated.

Hi 🐠, I’m at 2 YOE making around 100k in TC and trying to decide on my living situation next year. I can continue renting a 1br at about 1800/month, or in the current market is it worth it to buy a condo? It seems like you can get alright places downtown for 250-300k which works out to a monthly payment around 2k inclusive of the HOA. In my position, would you guys continue renting until you can afford a nicer place or pull the trigger on a condo?
