Interviewing for a security assurance analyst position with Twilio and some of the stuff I’ve been reading makes me nervous. Any Twilio people here that can speak to overall company culture and work/life balance?

The pace is fast and the bar is high. That said, there is a big emphasis on balance. Everyone respects your life outside of work and we have small things like no-meeting Fridays.

If you’re having trouble or second thoughts - reach out to the recruiter you’re working with when I went through the process they helped me out and set me up with other people (outside of the process) to talk to.

Just an example: I left mid day during a huge project to go to my kid’s parent teacher conference. No questions asked and was told to have a good weekend.

You will be busy, but when you need focus time or time away to take care of life - you’ll have the support.

Been at twilio for less than a year but it's the best place I've ever worked. Culture is great though there are issues due to massive employee growth over the last few years but overall it's great. Security is of utmost importance in this space so I'd imagine there may be some pressure but I'd imagine less than at a smaller company. Everyone I've met here has been super helpful all while being remote.

Haven't heard anything too terrible. Just that it can be a bit fast paced over there thats all.

At the end of the day I think you should trust the feeling you’re getting from the interview process. I’m connected with a few people on LinkedIn who work there and seem to really enjoy it. I’m sure experience varies from person to person but it’s definitely possible to have a positive experience.

like

I think that’s a good perspective. I’m just going to do my best to be thoughtful with my questions and get the answers I need to make a good decision.

like

I have a connection that only worked there for 9 months (quit two weeks ago) - just said the company culture wasn’t a good fit (I know that’s vague)

like

I think Twilio is one of those company cultures in which a person is either going to thrive or be miserable. I would ask questions and try to get a sense of it during the interviews.

like

It's a growing company so there will be pressure. But I am sure there will be support when needed. Did you end up taking the offer?

A great opportunity with a top brand has come up. I have not actively looked to make a move, but this role and brand looks really promising with a greater earning potential. Down side is I would need to relocate which I do not want to do and would be a challenge for my wife’s job . Any suggestions on how to leverage for a leveling of my current salary and role which I have been told is in the works but I have not seen any sort of movement to give me confidence that it will happen?

What are your thoughts about having to take an iq/personality assessment tests? It seems so outdated to me. I don’t think it predicts how you will truly perform at a job. I took a test like this for a startup once and they were concerned about my ability to speak up or behave in social settings. This was completely false. I present, interview clients, demo products, and facilitate meetings for a living. So what if I go home and shut down after work? I’m exhausted from speaking all day!

Hi all! To qualify for an L1A visa, do you have to be a senior manager / executive level or does it work as long as you’re a manager? I just moved out of the US because the H1b lottery didn’t work out for me, and I’m thinking rather than spending 1 or 2 years in my home country and go back as a senior, I’d much rather work here a bit longer, get that manager title, wait a year, and then go back as I think that would be the fastest route to green card..? I will be doing someheavy recruiting for Product Managers. Having a hard time with the existing team to persuade them that the uniqorns they are looking for dont exist. They are fixated that unless someone does not know to work agile or have tech specific experience they dont want to see them. Some of the questions also they have for candidates are an imitation of big corp companies like google, facebook etc. I am a big advocate on giving chances and trying to get through to them. Any ideas?
