Interviewing for a security assurance analyst position with Twilio and some of the stuff I’ve been reading makes me nervous. Any Twilio people here that can speak to overall company culture and work/life balance?

The pace is fast and the bar is high. That said, there is a big emphasis on balance. Everyone respects your life outside of work and we have small things like no-meeting Fridays.

If you’re having trouble or second thoughts - reach out to the recruiter you’re working with when I went through the process they helped me out and set me up with other people (outside of the process) to talk to.

Just an example: I left mid day during a huge project to go to my kid’s parent teacher conference. No questions asked and was told to have a good weekend.

You will be busy, but when you need focus time or time away to take care of life - you’ll have the support.

Been at twilio for less than a year but it's the best place I've ever worked. Culture is great though there are issues due to massive employee growth over the last few years but overall it's great. Security is of utmost importance in this space so I'd imagine there may be some pressure but I'd imagine less than at a smaller company. Everyone I've met here has been super helpful all while being remote.

At the end of the day I think you should trust the feeling you’re getting from the interview process. I’m connected with a few people on LinkedIn who work there and seem to really enjoy it. I’m sure experience varies from person to person but it’s definitely possible to have a positive experience.

I think that’s a good perspective. I’m just going to do my best to be thoughtful with my questions and get the answers I need to make a good decision.

Haven't heard anything too terrible. Just that it can be a bit fast paced over there thats all.

I have a connection that only worked there for 9 months (quit two weeks ago) - just said the company culture wasn’t a good fit (I know that’s vague)

I think Twilio is one of those company cultures in which a person is either going to thrive or be miserable. I would ask questions and try to get a sense of it during the interviews.

It's a growing company so there will be pressure. But I am sure there will be support when needed. Did you end up taking the offer?

Currently in the offer stage. I am currently in NY and will need to move to California for the role. She mentioned that NY will have less comp as compared to SFO. Had given the SFO location to the recruiter. If I want to get my location changed to Sunnyvale will my comp also change?

Been welding for my company for 13+ yrs and I think it’s time for a change. The culture has completely changed and became toxic. My dream is to go independent do mobile/rig welding and repair then potentially have my own shop/store front. I have all the equipment and truck setup to start but don’t know where or how. I am certified to pipeline (API 1104) code in dual processes (GMAW, SMAW) as well as an AWS CWI and a CPWI. Any advice/input is greatly appreciated!!

I recently made a move into compliance, and I hate it. It’s so boring, and I miss working with lawyers in a legal role. We just think and interact differently, and it’s never been more apparent. I’m fairly junior so I’m thinking of making the move back to a firm and doing my time before going in-house. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Hi all, looking for advice on whether to seek a CS degree. I’m an older guy about to successfully make a career shift in to SWE. I graduated bootcamp last may and I’m about to start my first jr. engineering role at Oracle OCI. I’m in my late 30’s with a couple of kids. Is it worth it for me to seek a CS degree at this time? I’m not afraid of the extra work, but wondering if the eventual payoff would worth the effort. Also I’m concerned about having the skills needed to get Sr. quicker.
