Interviewing for a security assurance analyst position with Twilio and some of the stuff I’ve been reading makes me nervous. Any Twilio people here that can speak to overall company culture and work/life balance?

The pace is fast and the bar is high. That said, there is a big emphasis on balance. Everyone respects your life outside of work and we have small things like no-meeting Fridays.

If you’re having trouble or second thoughts - reach out to the recruiter you’re working with when I went through the process they helped me out and set me up with other people (outside of the process) to talk to.

Just an example: I left mid day during a huge project to go to my kid’s parent teacher conference. No questions asked and was told to have a good weekend.

You will be busy, but when you need focus time or time away to take care of life - you’ll have the support.

Been at twilio for less than a year but it's the best place I've ever worked. Culture is great though there are issues due to massive employee growth over the last few years but overall it's great. Security is of utmost importance in this space so I'd imagine there may be some pressure but I'd imagine less than at a smaller company. Everyone I've met here has been super helpful all while being remote.

At the end of the day I think you should trust the feeling you’re getting from the interview process. I’m connected with a few people on LinkedIn who work there and seem to really enjoy it. I’m sure experience varies from person to person but it’s definitely possible to have a positive experience.

I think that’s a good perspective. I’m just going to do my best to be thoughtful with my questions and get the answers I need to make a good decision.

Haven't heard anything too terrible. Just that it can be a bit fast paced over there thats all.

I have a connection that only worked there for 9 months (quit two weeks ago) - just said the company culture wasn’t a good fit (I know that’s vague)

I think Twilio is one of those company cultures in which a person is either going to thrive or be miserable. I would ask questions and try to get a sense of it during the interviews.

It's a growing company so there will be pressure. But I am sure there will be support when needed. Did you end up taking the offer?

I’ve been in my first in house role for just over a year. I was recently contacted by a recruiter I spoke to a few years ago about a near identical position at a similar company. The high end of the pay range for the new job could be a 20% bump in base salary. I’m generally happy at my job and it feels early to throw my hat in the ring, but that’s a significant potential pay bump. Career projection would be similar in both roles I think as they are very similar companies. Is it worth exploring?

I am going in for a loop for the Senior Engagement Manager role in Proserve and I am being asked for a range for TC. I understand that the TC in amazon is a combination of base + sign-on + RSU that vest over 4 years. Keeping that in mind what should I say my range should be? I do not want to low ball it either. Is the TC range of $270-$300 K a good place to start with? Is it too high / too low? Any inputs is greatly appreciated

If I have 6+ months of expenses in investments in a brokerage account, do I need an emergency fund? Totally clear on the purpose of an emergency fund, but a brokerage account seems pretty liquid and the market would need to crash to a significant level to a point where I could no longer rely on this to liquidate and live off of if needed. Is it crazy to put my emergency fund to work by buying VOO with plan for a long time hold?

Off-late, I’ve been observing a lot of people walking into the office with no mask on. When the guard as part of her duties requests such people to mask on, they answer back and even get into arguments.
I am sure even the guard does not like hearing back from a 100 people everyday when all she’s trying to do is what she’s been directed by Deloitte.
Please be respectful. Itni chull hai ucchalne ki toh client calls pe ucchla karo.

These recruiters are really pissing me off. They’re all playing the same game. They hit you up on LinkedIn. Then when you reply immediately or get on the phone, the position is filled! At first I’m like okay…now I just called one out and said you literally called me for this position you emailed an hour ago and now it’s filled? Why are you calling me? I don’t get what’s happening.

For those that work in non consulting firms, what has been your WLB if the company is global?
