Lots of data is already available on sites like Levels.fyi. Do your research and ask what level they’re recruiting you for - you can then use data points similar to your experience level
Isn’t the data in levels more geared towards technical role? I remember taking a look a couple of months ago and not seeing anything aligned to some of the strategy roles id be interested in
Anyone know if this has changed, (or maybe I just missed it)?
Yes you’re right BCG1. I interviewed for PM roles and even that isn’t completely fleshed out. But I found a google doc with lots of data points I could use
And if that came across as negative it wasn’t meant to be, good luck. The move out of consulting and into Google was the best thing that ever happened to me.
You need to worry more about the interview and less about what salary you should be asking for. I didn’t talk about compensation whatsoever and when the offer came in I was blown away. At Google at least we have very predetermined offers based on level and location. Worry about demonstrating how you could fit into the culture and the rest works itself out
Don’t remember now where I found it though 😬
Wow these numbers are insane!! Does fanngm really pay this much? I guess it sort of makes sense as their revenue per employee is much higher than consulting and for some of them non labor costs are quite low. Still it’s shocking. What do you think the hours are relative to consulting?
150k base
350k in RSUs
Sc1 where’d you find that doc? I was looking for something similar but only found the technical one that was mentioned. Also interviewing so this would be good to know
I only found data for technical roles as well, by any chance do you mind sharing where you found that doc?
What level would be realistic for ops experience?
How s someone being paid 900k to be a software engineer? It doesn’t seem realistic.
* OP...... what level would be appropriate for OP to come into with his experience....l4, l5, l6?
Hours are def better than consulting
G1. How long did you spend in consulting and what is your current role
I was a 2nd year Manager in consulting at EY, spent 7 years there in total but only 4 in consulting. Also had military experience which Google took heavily into account. I am a Manager in the Finance Strategy & Systems Integration team now
There’s another thread I just read yesterday on fb in which a manager only got an offer for 200 K all in at apple which is the same as what he’s making currently in consulting. He also has to move to San Francisco which is much more expensive than his current city. My point being salary discussions are important especially considering you’re going through an extremely long interview process. You can’t just assume they’re going to blow your current all in out of the water
Google 1, I'm curious as to how the interviews are for non engineering roles at google. Mind sharing a bit?
@OP, mine weren’t that bad at all. They were almost more conversational than overly structured. My favorite question was towards the end. “What question did you think you would be asked today that you weren’t asked?” And then answer it. The recruiter was extremely helpful in expectation setting upfront.
