Interviewing for jobs right now and all of these places have interview processes with 4-5 rounds. When did this become the norm? I am exhausted and all of my “doctors appointments” are starting to look suspicious.

Yes, interviewing for white collar jobs nowadays is ridiculous! And it's one thing if Google, Goldman or McKinsey have long processes, because maybe that's worth it, but it is weird when random small companies have so many interviews. I almost told/asked a firm "I've already spoken with 15% of the company's employees. How many more rounds are needed in this process?"

likefunnyhelpful

The problem is they all think they’re Google, Goldman or McKinsey now because the head of HR read half a book about them requiring a bunch of interviews one time and decided to implement it because it works for them right?!

I’ve started putting legit sounding fake meetings on my calendar like “Status Update Sync”, “Case Study Touchpoint”, and doing an actual teams meeting instead of doctors appointments.

likefunnysmart

Block them as Private on Outlook.

Just block time on your calendar and don’t let anyone schedule meetings over it, I’ve taken interviews where they ran right up to a client meeting and upon entering just went “apologies for being a little late, previous meeting ran a little over” and Bada boom bada bing

likefunnyupliftingsmart

The globally agreed upon sequence is bada bing bada boom, plz fix thx

I don’t recommend doing this all the time but I sometimes join my own meeting and share my screen so my status is on Presenting/DNB. Have a 4th round interview this week and it’s exhausting…

Are these interviews in person? If they're on zoom I wouldn't even mention being out.

Omg i have been thinking the same thing about these crazy interview processes. I'm interviewing with a company of 400 people and they want nine rounds. The heck!?

Yes I’m over the long unnecessary interview process. Companies will say it’s for the benefit of both parties but I only need two interviews to know my role, talk to my direct supervisor and tell me my benefits. That’s it. I don’t need to talk to the person above my boss and their boss smh.

Just went through this. I was at a point where I was so done with my project that I didnt care if my manager started to suspect something. Also, I realized that one of my teammates who was having a doc's appointment every other day was also interviewing so we ended up covering for each other. I also did set up mtgs with myself and set my status to "presenting" so it looks like I'm doing something v important.

I would have a close friend that I work with join a call labeled “Terraform training” or some new technology relevant for learning. We would both be in the call on mute, so if anyone joined, we could easily say “we went over some lessons and are trying to figure it out, and (person interviewing) just stepped away from their computer.” Disguise it as professional development, but make sure you actually learn some things in your free time related to the topic. 😂

I have a Deloitte mail and client mail. I book both my calendars the moment I get a recruiter confirm the interview slot… make plans to make it non negotiable

Try to put them on a single day as much as possible. Easier to take a half day - Help a friend move, kid’s school stuff, going to the airport an hour away to pick someone up, etc.

Anyone else think the reason they require so many interviews these days is to discourage people from leaving shortly after they’re hired? If you’ve gone through this gauntlet at 6 or 7 places you’re not likely to want to do it again in two years!

Good books for engineering management interviews? Hi - i am an EM and I keep bombing the EM interviews. Typically don’t get any feedback. My resume is ok because I do get plenty of calls, but clearly i am doing something wrong somewhere. Anyone recommend any engineering management or just management interview book? I read quite a few Leadership books but honestly it seems just common sense stuff. Doesn’t help me identify whats wrong.

I was laid off in April when there was just email and phones. Cut to five months later and I’m working again. Yay. But suddenly it’s all Zoom, Slack, Teams, Slides, Sheets. Email is dead. Facebook managers, any tips for the data science manager final interview loops? Just got intimation that I cleared the screening round from two weeks ago. Have a conversation with the recruiter next week about the next steps, but any pointers would be great. The screening round interviews were reasonably easy. Is the next round an order of magnitude more difficult? Are Data Science managers expected to code or just read code? I got conflicting answers from the interviewer and recruiter.

Anybody work at Amazon? Are their offers negotiable? My husband got an offer for a senior position in the VA office paying $120k plus $20k bonus plus 13 shares of stock that vest over 4 years. My husband has ~6 years of experience (2 yrs midsize PA plus various industry roles) so the senior title is low but have heard you have to take a step down in title to work at Fortune 25 companies. He likes the offer but not sure if he should negotiate for more because it’s expected?
