I’ve spent months asking for a promotion for him, trying to push his career forward and got no traction. I know i did my best. He knows i tried. Hi, I am basically the only corporate attorney in a small firm. I am a corporate generalist so I have broad experience (corporate governance, independent k agreements, stock/asset purchases, other general counsel work for clients). Current non-equity partner here. Up for equity this year. Had a good year. Concerned that my firm will either forgo giving me a bonus or give me a lower bonus than I deserve in exchange for possibly giving me equity (which might not even result in an immediate raise). Thoughts?

If you are an associate assisting on a file, you get cc’d on all emails and take time to read them and stay up to date, however you aren’t actually replying to the emails or doing any billable work. But you need to stay in the loop for when you need to eventually draft a document and know the facts. How do you record your time for these emails?

I’m so bad at writing the background/ facts section for briefs… it always gets heavily edited and no one is giving me constructive feedback other than “advocate more”. In contrast, my legal argument section is generally without edits. For context, first defense lit job post appellate clerkship. Is this normal?? My assistant is a nice person who has worked worth me for about 1.5 years. I have a solo family law practice, and she excels at dealing with clients, which is great. Unfortunately, her attention to detail sucks and it is making me crazy. For example, I told her to find the order entered that required OV to comply with discovery within x number of days. She comes in my office and tells me no such order was entered. It takes me about 3 minutes to find the order, which was about 2 orders (cont)

I am a junior associate at an AmLaw insurance defense firm. I want to break out of ID and get into commercial litigation. From what I’ve seen, the AmLaw commercial litigation firms are declining my applications after they get my transcript due to my GPA.
Should I wait to apply until I’m X amount of years out from graduation, or try and lateral to a regional commercial/ business litigation firm in the mean time to get the commercial experience? Any thoughts/ suggestions are helpful. Thanks!
