Not sure what your seniority is, but make sure you have support staff, especially if you’re bringing a book. We’re understaffed at our firm and I have to do a lot of admin work because our LAs and paralegals are overwhelmed.

Support staff, support staff, support staff.

Also resources (access to electronic treatises, secondary materials, etc.).

Most boutiques that recruit from big law are former big law. They know what you want and need. I would ask about culture if you’re making a lifestyle move. Most of these people left because they didn’t like how their old firm was run, but forget to slow down in the process. Worst thing (imo) you could do is leave big law to work for a boutique that still works like it’s big law.

I’ve spent months asking for a promotion for him, trying to push his career forward and got no traction. I know i did my best. He knows i tried. I still believe i work at a good place but i feel like we’re losing focus. I feel my boss is leaving soon. It’s a mess.

Hi, I am basically the only corporate attorney in a small firm. I am a corporate generalist so I have broad experience (corporate governance, independent k agreements, stock/asset purchases, other general counsel work for clients). I deal with small acquisitions so not considered really m&a as the ones big law doe (my due diligence is minimal in most). I would love to learn more complex m&a but not sure how and I want to better market myself out for a lateral move. Appreciate any advice! Thanks

Has anyone been in a position where they have been working on a case drafting all the pleadings, motions, and communicating with OC, but once your supervisor sees how much youve racked up in fees, tries to settle it before you can, so they can collect the commission/fees on it, instead of you. I’m incredibly annoyed because I’ve been practicing the same area of law for 4 years and my supervisor has been practicing for 8, but the previous 7 were in crim law.
