I was sc at 28 ,manager at 35 , s m at 39 and director at 42 . Lost job in another leading consulting in US . During that time started doing some part time business income .. which now yield around 150 k yearly additionally besides salary .Was doing free lancing for 5 years and doing part time side business as well a joined again as S C in Deloitte .. .. suggestion is good salary is important .. but never chase a risky position like SM for which you have to contribute all your personnel time . We need job for stable income but try to develop second line income sources
What is your second line of income/side business, how did you get into it and how were you able to grow it to 150k a year? Looking to start something that would generate similar income on the side.
36 yo and Principal (SM equivalent for some firms). Was a SC until 32. Then M and Principal in three. Caught up with many peers, some progressed further. I have more meaningful relationships with client because I spent more hands-on time at when C, so progress faster now.
TL:DR - put the hours, stay focused on learning. This is the darkness of the womb, not of the tomb. Worry about good work, progress happens.
39 yo 1st year SC. Making $155K base. I don’t care much for the title. They’re paying me as a M while I’m only responsible for SC level work. It’s a winning deal for me 😎

Same here, 28 and going into 4th year SC in cyber... Second yr trying for promotion and both times didn't make it for reasons I can't control

Came in as a SC @ 31; D now @ 34. Promotions will come faster for you, assuming with age you’re bringing more experience and maturity

If you had IDENTICAL lives since you were born then please go ahead with the comparison. I am pretty sure that’s not the case.
Just compare with yourself from yesterday and try to be a better version of that. Inner peace is the most important thing. Nothing else matters at the end of the day.

No. I am an immigrant and worked for a couple of years out of college in my home country. I did my graduation from an American university and joined Ernst and young in an entry level position, because my experience from my home country didn’t count.
Also. These levels only matter within consulting. Industry levels are much different. Consulting progress is really fast.

42 yr old 3rd yr SC here. Late bloomer. Titles are overrated. I don’t care what you call me as long as my paycheck looks pretty.
Depends on when you started in consulting. I started out of undergrad and got promoted to MC at 26 but sticking with the same company. Folks who transition into consulting from other industries typically start at higher salaries but lower levels. Overall, it’s not a competition and you’re probably not lagging as much as you think you are.
Was an SC at 37. It didn't bother me as I started off in a different career.
Moreover, I don't care if I make partner at 42 vs 52. As long as I don't lose my family along the journey and manage to enjoy my experiences , I'd be happier. I'm not living anyone else's timeline but my own.

Big 4 promotes people to manager way too early. So much young managers I see are just not cut out for the job. Don’t take it too seriously.
Everyone has their own timeline so I wouldn’t worry too much about how others are doing. I joined corporate America last year after serving 8 years in the military so I’m technically behind in the corporate world but I don’t stress over things like this. If you work hard, I’m sure things will pick up for you
