Gusto I’m a product designer hoping to switch industries from the public sector to private. I am struggling because I’m starting to see a lot of pushback on the fact that I don’t have industry specific work. So I’m really curious how much working in a specific industry effects your career path.
I’m looking at some fintech jobs but ultimately want to work in hrtech? Like gusto, lattice, etc. would that potentially prevent that switch?
You have have to seriously prove why you deserve the raise so closed from your entry date in the company. Back yourself with data and detailed examples. Ideally you have shared demonstration with your +1 through the year

If you have really ROCKED the last year, then you should absolutely ask for a significant raise. Especially if your current salary is below market or below what your coworkers are making. At the end of my first year at my first real job I was promoted and received a significant raise because I performed well above expectations.
If you are just expecting a raise without good reason to support your request, then it will be a hard ask.

Depends on what % of your current salary that $10k would be. If it's ~10% or less of your current salary, totally possible. If it's greater than 10%, might be a stretch, but if you have a competing offer then your company might match it to keep you.
An average, common raise is 2.5 to 3% of your current salary. I would agree with the previous posts that you would really need to prove in your end of year review that you deserve a 10% raise. All companies and roles are a little different, but I can tell you I’ve always received an “exceeded expectations” or a 4 on my reviews, and have never received the equivalent of a $10k raise.
