I need some advice. I am the chief science officer for a genetics company. The CEO recruited me with the intent of giving me ownership. He still hasn’t and it’s been a year. How can I approach this. He is very emotional but I also love what I don’t and see incredible potential
I would like to prepare for an interview with the usual bs technical interview, the one with logical tasks that you never really use in your daily job. I would like to know which platform is better between HackerRank and LeetCode in your experience and why?
I have 3 years of Experience working as a fullstack developer using .NET Core, Angular, React, and Postgres.
I have also done certifications in Machine learning using Python and Tensorflow, but I am unable to land an interview with Microsoft, even if my profile matches the job description.
Any nudge in the right direction would be appreciated.
Anyone ever put their electric breast pump into a checked bag? Thinking of doing it, somehow seems odd to me (like it could get damaged) but logically it should be fine, right?
Question for PC gamers: since i won't be buying a graphics card any time soon, i was wondering if it would even be worth it to upgrade Mobo/chipset. Current specs are: i5 7600k (OC to 4.4ghz, only supports up to 2400 speed ram, 4 cores no hyperthreading), GTX 1070 OC'd, m.2 nvme storage, 32gb 3200 cl 15 ram even though it's not supported). I know these are pretty old parts, but...yeah is it even worth it to spend the money
You’re tasked with running workshops w your client to discourage vanity metrics/short term fixes, encourage creativity & consumer POV, and get them less risk adverse.... what do you advise?

Anybody ever used a counter offer from your current employer to leverage an improved offer from your potential new employer? Is this common practice?

SF 47, been texting guy (49) for a week, plan to meet tomorrow. The texting is getting too much, good morning and good night texts. I consider anyone from an app a stranger until meeting in person. Over the course of weekend, he's sent 3 YouTube songs with "love" in the title (Etta James). I am feeling more and more uncomfortable. He's coming off as needy or desperate, huge turnoff for me. I have slowed my response rate. How to deal with this?

Is it normal to feel guilty when there’s a lull? How do you guys recommend filling the time?
Is there an “unspoken rule” that if you apply to other firms and are rejected it hurts your chances if you reapply to them in the future? I’ve been at a firm for a few months but the environment is toxic and I’m looking at other options.
Not a lawyer specific question, but since many of us have crazy student loan debt thought I’d ask here. Why on earth isn’t there a conversation around the predatory interest rates on student loans? I feel like it would be so easy for the federal government to slash those rates, then people would actually pay back their loans, and it would be so much better for so many. We are instead having exclusively conversations about loan forgiveness but why no love for reduction in interest?
If you come across a document that is privileged and inadvertently produced by OC do you read it or immediately stop when you realize it’s privileged?
Any recommendations for software that straightforwardly helps you collect, manage, organize, and prepare documents for production, e.g. in response to subpoenas (including ability to bates stamp)? Basically a one stop shop that is simple to use. Thanks so much
Just renewed my bar license. This shit is crazy expensive considering that I (my firm) gets exactly no return on that expense. Still have to pay separately for CLE, conferences, books, etc.
I was up all night drafting a 9-10 page memo based on the latest version of the draft agreement the client had sent us. I was literally proofreading it when client sent me a new version of the agreement and I think I'll have so start over. Not sure how to feel. Yay hours / dead inside
Anyone else take the bar exam after practicing for a while? I took another state bar this past July and just remembered that I get my results tomorrow. Now I’m all distracted and worried I failed. Sometimes I really hate our profession 🙄
My laptop died. IT needs to check it physically. I’m 300 miles away from the nearest office and 1000 miles away from my office. I’ll be driving there first thing tomorrow - if you were a partner, would you be pissed that I’ll probably have to take a day off even if I’m at an office? Is it my fault that I’m out of town?
10 billable hours this week so far… is this normal for a first year associate during this time of the year? (Transactional)
I recently received an offer from a big 4 company. I am very happy with where I am currently working. I’m unsure if I should take it. I feel valued at my firm and I am not micromanaged. There are many benefits to staying however, it’s a big 4.. feels like a sin to turn it down.
The main reason I feel inclined to take it is for the name and the exposure. Can I have some thoughts on what you would do in this situation?

Advice for tackling a backlog of assignments? Been absolutely swamped and the list gets longer every day. Have had active deals to prioritize and the partners understand but there is now a spreadsheet full of things I owe that are growing urgent and I need to refocus my efforts intelligently.
Any tips on transitioning from large non-profit law firm to mid-large private practice? I currently practice primarily consumer law and bankruptcy. I previously practiced housing law. I've only been practicing for 2 years. However, prior to law school I was in corporate banking and finance doing financial analysis and M&A due diligence work for about 10 years. I would ideally like to work in corporate/finance/business transactional law.
Tax lawyers: what do you guys actually do?
I’m a new attorney and really struggling with billable hour requirements. It’s even harder when I’m typically in meetings/trial with more senior attorneys and not being able to bill for that time. Any suggestions?
Anyone else notice how quiet Above the Law is on the Thomas texting scandal? Been several days now.
I am a post bar graduate and currently seeking employment. I did not graduate from a top tier school, but I did graduate in the top third of my class as a dual-degree graduate. About a week ago, a partner at a big law firm connected with me on LinkedIn. He asked if I had a job lined up. I told him no and he responded that I should let him know if there is anything his firm or he can do to help me. We have a meeting with each other in two weeks. Is this a big law opportunity?
Is coming into the office at 10am bad? Lol I just started at this new firm and no one is ever here. I come in 3-4 times a week but at 10am. Sometimes the other people on my team are here earlier but idk if it’s a bad look being the youngest/newest one on the team.

Yes. Anything above 1950/2000 is high in my view.
Unless you’re out of the office with deps and court appearances, meetings, traveling, etc., billing 2200 a year minimum is absolutely brutal
Not unreasonable to end up working that in a busy year and in a major market... but that is a very high requirement/expectation.
Does that include non-billable time like networking, CLE, firm activities?
Agreed. I'll definitely get clarification on this. Thank you for your help. I really appreciate it! And haha, no, it's nowhere near Cravath scale.
