Just ask for the raise, especially if you were already making less then a similarly experienced counterpart and as long has the raise that was given to him wasn't becuase he was billing an insane amount, then it shouldn't be a problem. Alot times the disproportionate salary is due to us woman not asking for a raise when we deserve one or negotiating our salary better.

What percentage of your salary is a 5k raise? 3-5% raises were standard yearly raises at my last firm.

They only do raises once a year :(

Did you get a bonus and this raise?

I think standing alone, the raise is acceptable, though I would expect 4-5%, but with the info about your colleague, I would say it’s not enough.

My husband has been super supportive of my career, and all this time I thought he was just a really great guy. Now I'm starting to think he just wants to quit working and sit around. Everyday since I told him I'm up for promotion he's asked if I've heard yet. Also, I told him he has to keep working until his student loans are paid off. So he's trying to get them forgiven since he's in the health industry. Really don't think I can be married to a 30 year old retiree who sits at home all day

Is pharma a death sentence? I got an offer with a promotion and a huge raise and I’m super conflicted. I really enjoy my current agency, the work I’m doing, etc. but feel undervalued and overdue for a promotion (it’s been ~5 years) Don’t care as much about the pay, more concerned about getting recognized for my hard work. Thoughts?? Help, please & thanks.

What’s out there for people with clinical lab background? Im willing to go back to school. Thanks!

Thinking about jumping ship a year before manager promotion in audit to work as an analyst at a relatively boutique family office. From my understanding, the work will be largely dominated by financial planning, tax planning (which I have no experience in) and some portfolio management. 20% sal jump and seems to better align with my interests which is certainly not just accounting based. Any advice on making this leap from public? Wish to transition to financial services and capital markets

All the Big 4 Partner questions answered in one place: 1) 1st year - 350k to 700k. 2) 5th year - 750k to 1.4M 3) Stop asking about and worrying about the buy in. It is an opportunity and not a significant out of pocket cost. The only thing you should think about with the buy in is that it is an at risk asset, but if you have concerns about short term firm failure, you’re already at the wrong firm. 4) Take the Pship if ever offered. Non equity positions below Partner are always at risk
