Just ask for the raise, especially if you were already making less then a similarly experienced counterpart and as long has the raise that was given to him wasn't becuase he was billing an insane amount, then it shouldn't be a problem. Alot times the disproportionate salary is due to us woman not asking for a raise when we deserve one or negotiating our salary better.
What percentage of your salary is a 5k raise? 3-5% raises were standard yearly raises at my last firm.
They only do raises once a year :(

I think standing alone, the raise is acceptable, though I would expect 4-5%, but with the info about your colleague, I would say it’s not enough.
