You might want to get on a waitlist for your #1 and #2 daycare choices while you decide. They usually act like waitlists are a year long for infants.
We have three. We did a nanny share with our first born for the first 2 years. Many pros and many cons. You have to decide whether you totally trust the nanny - they will have a lot of latitude throughout the day with your child - and where to host/whether the other family’s environment is safe and clean enough for you.
With the second and third, we went straight to daycare. Our experience is that places like Bright Horizons have more reliable systems in place for security as well as better processes for sanitizing the toys/rooms, getting kids to wash hands often, accurately reporting incidents (bumps, scrapes), and you also get pictures throughout the day on their app.
Best of luck and congratulations on your exciting news.
We were going to do nanny share but decided on au pair because its still expensive & you have to find a family & nanny you like
What agency did you use? Looking to get au pair ourselves.
I have had 2 friends do the nanny share vs. day care. It’s not any cheaper, but the positives are you don’t have to transport your child. The downside is the nanny is legally your employee you have to file paperwork and forms etc.
Big upside: your kid isn’t getting a monthly ear infection from the germfest that happens at most day cares.
My wife and I are looking for a nanny share starting around the same time! We will be located in Arlington and our daughter will be about 9 months at that time. Message me if you want to discuss.
Geez it’s crazy how child care is so expensive. That’s my monthly rent right there at 1700 a month
Yup 😣
Not cheaper to do nanny share. At least as much, if not more, particularly if you want a good nanny (the good ones in DC proper typically command at least $50k a year- so $25k/family). And you don’t want anything less than a good nanny- remember this is the single point of failure with your child!
We are paying for Goddard @ 2300/mo ... just about the price of a nanny share
