Is a night nurse worth it if you’re on maternity leave and hubs has a flexible schedule? If so, do you have any recommendations for night nurses in northern Virginia and their rates?

I adopted newborn twins and I had a night nurse 4 nights a week for the first 3 months. The absolute BEST thing was that the babies started sleeping through the night on the 90th day. So yes, yes, yes, so worth it. What you may want to do is talk with the ped nurses at the hospital to find them. The night nurses are able to help space out the feedings in a developmentally appropriate way to ensure they sleep through the night at the right time. Even when if 4 nights is too much financially speaking, see if you can do 3 nights or even twice a week, starting from week 3 to 3 months.

We considered it but honestly the biggest help for me was in the morning. I didn’t mind waking up with him once or twice a night if I got to catch on on sleep in the am. Might be easier to find care 7-10am rather than overnight. A five to six hour stretch of uninterrupted sleep does wonders for your mental health.

Has baby been born yet?

The reason I asked is because I would wait and see. Your baby might be a naturally good sleeper or you might get into a good flow and have it under control :)

I think it depends on whether you are planning to nurse and if your baby is a relatively easy baby. If nursing, your sleep will be disturbed anyway. It baby takes an hour to settle down post nursing, the a nurse may be invaluable. If your baby nurses and goes right back down, not necessary. If formula, you get to sleep and the nurse wakes up with your baby so that is a huge help.

I’d personally wait it out and see how it goes. My first I probably could have used a night nurse. My second is much easier and only wakes once, starting at 7 weeks. So while a nurse would be cool, not worth the cost to me right now. We did discuss bringing one in if baby was as difficult as his older sister :)

I didn’t learn about night nurses until my only child was older, but I swear I would mortgage my house and hire one if I accidentally got pregnant again.

First time leaving firms - not sure what to do with my 401k. Should I keep it as it is, transfer to an IRA, or a Roth IRA. If it is the latter, I know Roth IRA has a 6k limit but my 401k has ~17k. Will it exceed the limit and if so, what should I do? 22 here, not too familiar with the process. Thanks!

I just started my job a month ago. It was my 2nd choice role at this company. I didn't realize the chaos I was walking into, and while it's not toxic (yet), I had hopes of more work life balance and an actual "belonging to a team" feel. I basically skipped onboarding and jumped right into working, boss skipped a huge working session I "led" but had no clue how to lead and I was put on the spot. Applying to a dream job but if I don't get it might keep browsing. Is leaving worth the consequences?
