How little do you care about the job? Why would you not want to look your best? I wore a suit and tie in order to get my current T2 job out of respect for my interviewees

like

Sartorially, short sleeve dress shirts are never acceptable for men in US.

like

Hold on Let me go Google what sartotially means ... ... ... ok, I don't agree with the never part

ONLY if you wear a tie with it

likefunnysmart

A tie with a short sleeve shirt makes it even worse - you look under dressed and over dressed at the same time.

Have you gone completely mad

I've never done it in person, but I've been doing it virtually because I'm not going to pretend I sit at home in a dress shirt.

It's not the location that matters, it's the context of the meeting.

Go long sleeve. Better to be overdressed than under

Just a followup, the MD showed up in a stained t-shirt and messy hair.

Then I interviewed at EY, the partner was wearing an athletic shirt like he was going on a run afterwards. They kinda do what they want.

Absolutely! I really hope you get that copier repair job! Fingers crossed 🤞

So Ive been on many covid interviews and I always wore something extremely professional only to be met by the other person looking like they rolled out of bed. Id rather be safe than sorry but you can probs get away with a polo.

like

Depends on company If I wear a polo I’m probably overdressed

Welcome to tech where you don’t need to wear a suit everyday AWS is often that way and when I was part of a boutique firm, we set our immediate policy that was dress to blend in with your customer. Wearing a suit is useless in that it intentionally sets you apart and can make you less approachable. It’s a legacy practice that needs to be sunset. I went to a customer last week in jeans and a polo, which is what they were also wearing given it was 93 degrees. I’ll wear jeans and buttondown or sweater with boots or nice sneakers most of the year. Fridays I will wear a company tshirt typically. If I am presenting at a conference, sure I will wear a suit.

I think so but I’d still play it safe and wear long sleeve tbh.

Most of my interviewers have been wearing polo necks and short sleeves.. pretty much Friday casual vibes. In banking! I definitely felt overdressed in business casuals. But then I wouldn’t know this beforehand of the interview so I’d say err on the safe side.

Short sleeve should be fine - you’re in your home, what if you don’t crank AC like an office? Sleeveless no. Fun fact: I forgot to put my blazer on for my final round interview - and so I was only wearing a short sleeve rather fitted dress. Realized when I walked out that my blazer was on the chair and panicked a little. Still got the offer! The room was so hot that in the end idk if I would’ve performed so well with a blazer on!

No. Wear a button up dress shirt. Do a fun color if you want to seem more “casual”. The assumption by the interviewer is that you will show up “your best” at the interview, and will go downhill from there. So, always be at the top of your game.

It depends on what type of role. For tech I'd say you would be over dressed. For consulting, better to be more conservative. You should appear like they want you to appear in front of clients and in your MS outlook photo - wearing business clothes. (suit jacket and dress shirt)
