A good woman will accept a ring that is less than $1000, anything more is a sign of trouble to come. Tell her if the marriage lasts for 10 years you will get her something bigger on your 10th anniversary.
Best advice I’ve heard on jewelry / watches is always buy the seller not the piece. That price sounds too good to be true, I would definitely want to see a GIA cert (other third party opinion at bare minimum).
@EY4 He is asking about a diamond for an engagement ring not some piece of shit alternative. Men buy diamonds.
Yes, a woman that complains about a cheap ring isn’t the kind of woman you want. She’ll just hide the disappointment from herself and everyone else. And then one day years later, she’ll realize it was just the beginning of all the things that you weren’t willing to do for her.
I think 2 carats is pretty huge. And you could actually go lower on the color to save some money. You don’t need an F.
You’re an associate...how much is your budget? *assuming you will pay full cash
Unfortunately you won't get out with a stone of those specs for under $15k. Take a carat off and you're closer to your budget.
Op- unless you have some sort of connection there’s no way you’re getting that ring for under $15k at least.
What I never understood is, if we are having a dick measuring contest why wouldn’t you get a stone that is more rare than a diamond? Diamonds are actually very common and are artificially price inflated by the diamond industry. Until recently, they’ve been very hard to synthesize and very carefully managed. Either way, OP, just keep in mind your fiancé’s preferences, since she’ll be the one waving it around all day
Those are very, very nice specs for a stone. But good luck finding one for less than 4x your 5k budget in the simplest of settings.
My God if you can get it for that price I will fly to that jeweler and buy a second one alongside you.
CH1 😂
Hold up. Is 2 carat single diamond or total? That's very important. A 2 carat single diamond will cost you a lot more then 5k at vs2 f color if it's real. I mean like more then double your budget just for the rock.
Oh AM1 makes a great point. A two carat solitaire with those specs should cost you around 15k. But if that 2 carat is total weight (so likely a smaller solitaire and a bunch of small diamonds around it) and you like the look and it appraises well, then 5k doesn’t seem bad.
@CH1 Lmfao and why is it that men buy diamonds? @EY1 Any cut. They’re all around the same price. Checkout moissaniteco.com or just google it. The beauty of moissanite is that you can get a ring that will look better than anything else out there for a fraction of the price. Spend that money on a down payment for a home instead of wasting $5k on a rock that looks like crap or can’t be seen without a microscope.
2 carats for 5k is just not possible
Look into BlueNile (GIA only) and Brilliance (all appraisal houses) to get a feel for the prices. People swear by GIA but I feel they're overpaying. Yes their reports are 100% accurate but I'll take a color shade off with the other reports if I can see the diamond in person at a reduced cost.
I found one from a local jeweler for $4700 with a certification and thinking about getting a 3rd party appraisal for it just to be certain.
Serious question CH1 - why are diamonds better?
@EY4, what home are you buying with a down payment of $5k?! If he wants to buy a diamond he should. But I agree that you better triple check that rock because less than $5k for those specs isn't realistic. That rock should be around 15k-20k depending on the jeweler
