Is all the hype in short term rentals real? I see people on tik tok buying these houses and making back their money in 2-5 years according to the models they have. Starting to think I should put my money here

Is any of the hype that is promoted on tiktok real?

Remember, gross revenue doesn’t include expenses. There’s a lot of operational cost that goes into setting up a long term rental, and cleaning fees / maintenance is very real. There’s also increasing regulation and taxation on STR’s (largely being moved forward by the hotel industry), so I don’t expect profits to remain sky high for long. Additionally, operating a short term rental is a 24/7 job. You may only have 2 to 5 days to keep a guest happy, so “silly” requests about where the extra TP is kept at 3am is important during every single stay. It’s not a set it and forget it type of investment (even with a property manager).

That being said, unique properties will always catch a premium, and if you can find a unicorn, there’s definitely a lot of money to be made.
