Is an Apple Watch worth the splurge? Not really a watch wearer but heard great reviews in the fitness aspect and not having phone on you 24/7

Used to absolutely love my watch. As a short distance runner (5k or less) it works great. But for more serious data, I would look into FitBit or Garmin.

Nowadays, I feel like I need a break from it every once in a while. You can start to feel like you’re always connected and it can get overwhelming. I’ve limited my notifications, but I make it a point to leave it on the charger about once a week, usually on the weekend.

Got my wife's when she upgraded hers. Didnt really want one, but my favorite think about it is the ability to have my morning alarm(s) just vibrate my wrist instead of waking her too. I could snooze all day without bothering her.

Also like being able to answer calls around the house, even when I don't have my phone on me.

Its useful for sleep tracking and fitness, and it does require daily charging. I could replace its battery, but it would destroy its waterproof-ness and make it so I couldn't swim with it.

I love my Apple Watch for fitness tracking and I can leave my phone on a table/counter while I do things around the house

like

And you can answer calls!! I LOVE THAT.

Its battery life it too short. It needs to be recharged every day. I need to remove it during work hours too because it is constantly vibrating. My wife has a nice Fitbit for fitness tracking. It has all the same main features and she charges it every 6 days.

I was a Fitbit user for years, but the heart rate feature died and it’s useless without that, so I went Apple Watch this time. I even tried the next level Fitbit, but I wasn’t able to read the screen in the bright sunshine where I live. Apple Watch FTW!

I like it! It’s a nice convenience.

I love my watch. Great for fitness and the amount of times I have used it to find my phone in seconds before leaving the house has saved lots of time and caused my husband to love it too.

like

I do love this feature. Much quicker than logging in on iPad or computer, opening the app and having it ping it. at least once a a week I find my self saying “Siri find my phone”

Isn't the apple watch the epitome of having your phone on you 24/7?

How dare you use logic around us! I am offensive.

I have a Series 6. I put off buying one until this summer. I love it. As to notifications set the ones you want or not. If it bothers you during work turn the notifications off. Personally I like for quick glance at email, chat or text will I continue to work on my laptop.

I fish so I like a customizable face that has tides, temperature, weather and sunrise/sunset available.

like

garmin all day! its worth it! btw- battery lasts a week with heavy use

I have the forerunner 945 and I love it. Before this I had one step down from it. Before that I had a vivoactive. I also have a garmin 830 edge bike computer. You can’t go wrong no matter which one you pick. DC rainmaker has great reviews of all of them.

I like the FitBit better for fitness and it blows Apple Watch away for sleep tracking but I do like my Apple Watch (was a bday present from my husband). I like that my alarm goes off on both, my calls, texts, emails, etc appear on both. It syncs with my work’s wellness app and I get credits for reduced ins costs.

Got one for Christmas, still haven’t opened the box.

I bought one for my husband and it sits on the charger most of the time 🙄
He’s really not into tracking his fitness and while WFH doesn’t see the need for sync’ing since his phone is right next to him all day.

like

Yes so worth it

like

Yes and no. I appreciate the Apple watch’s connectivity to texting, my calendar, Siri, setting reminders. Used to have a Fitbit that I loved for general fitness tracking, but it fell short on connectivity. The Fitbit was sturdier, though. My AW is already scratched after <6 months, whereas my 3-year-old Fitbit Versa had zero scratches.

Unless you *want* something very connected, the Fitbit is a better buy IMHO for general fitness tracking.

like

I only use it for running. I think it’s a passable good enough watch for any occasion, good connectivity & interface w/ iphone, etc. I’ve had mine for 3 years w/o issue.

like

I love mine for fitness tracking (including rest times at the gym) and just keeping me accountable in general. I also always have my phone on silent and will often miss calls or texts as a result so the notification helps me. You can always turn the vibrate notification off if you don’t want it. I wear mine every single day

like

I love mine and before Apple Watch I was never an watch wearer either. I look at my phone less often now and love the fitness tracking.

like

For fitness I personally prefer garmin. It gives a lot of information on HR, VO2 max, run cadence and effort. I love it for running, biking and swimming.

I like mine. I bought one for the fitness component. Now I have 2 little kids and try to limit the amount of time they see me on my phone (and screen time in general). With a watch I can still eyeball what’s coming through and only pull my phone out if I really need to

If you want it for fitness I really like the Whoop - not a smart watch but I really like it

Hello! I am very new to this app. My husband is looking for an HR Generalist position and has 4 years experience. He is enrolled in college to get his degree in HR. How can I let him know how this app can help him? I’m a little overwhelmed at all the information and not sure how to navigate it all! Any help is appreciated!

I am a NEP considering a lateral move. My current practice includes work for personal clients that I have originated, but also institutional clients that my current firm has serviced for years. I have been the only attorney working with some of these institutional clients for a long time. I expect that at least a few will want to come with me, if I leave. Does anyone have tips for navigating this situation without burning too many bridges?

I was contacted by a recruiter about a new job and the firm would like to meet with me. But, the partner only proposed meeting at 7 am (in person!) which seems like a huge red flag to me. My further research into the firm seems like it would be a good environment. Am I overreacting about the time? I proposed meeting during normal business hours but apparently the partner does not do that. Thoughts?

I had my annual physical today and expect to get the results soon. The technicians of course won’t interpret what they are seeing, but I was able to see the read out from my EKG: sinus bradycardia and an otherwise normal EKG. I, of course, googled it immediately and it looks like it’s fine, but perhaps something to keep an eye on. I was feeling so smug about my low heartbeat (51 bpm, 50 yo female, long term mediocre runner), but it might be TOO low? Anyone else have this?

I'm grounded cause my husband traveled. Under a new order, returning travelers must quarantine 10 days and they should isolate from others in the household, even wear masks at home. Husband is about to return from a work trip, & he's not on board. So to stay "clean" and able to go out myself, I plan to sleep in my home office for HIS quarantine, with my air purifier on, and mask up if we are in the same room. Ridiculously inconvenient, but I do not feel it's ethical to risk infecting others.
