Is an employer's 401k 25% match (up to a tiny % of salary) worth my time? I already have two 401k from prior jobs and a Roth IRA, and don't really want to enroll in another 401k.

It’s free money, what’s wrong with enrolling in another 401k?

like

Roll them all together... why are you acting like that’s a lot of work.... 401ks are tax advantaged and have benefits beyond just having employer match

like

I can't remember why i couldn't roll over when I last tried so I'll look into it again

Don’t leave free money on the table

Don't think you fully understand the concept of a 401k.

It take almost no time to enroll into one...

Obviously there is no vesting on the actual employee contributions - there isn’t at any form since it’s illegal...

I’d wonder more about the vest schedule, but it’s probably a low-fee vehicle

İt's a slow ladder. You get 20% of their 25% after 2 years, 40% after 3 years, and so on

Hi tax 🐠,

I have a question for those who prep individual tax returns. My parents claim my grandfather as a dependent on their tax return and due to their low income, receive PTC for the premiums they pay on his insurance (not eligible for medicare). However, would it be advantageous to have him file for his own tax return (he stays with my parents and doesn't have his own proof of residency via bills). If so, can he get PTC if his income is 0?

What is the partner compensation like at BDO? Base/equity as well as pension. I heard there is 5 years as fixed partner and then 10 as variable partner before you can earn pension. Say you make partner at 40, so can’t earn pension til 55. If you retire at 55 does that mean all you have is whatever you’ve contributed to 401k or otherwise saved? Or is there a lifetime salary if you’ve been partner a certain duration?

Anyone here retire in late 30s or know someone that has?

Serious question - is there a reverse FIRE strategy? I like the idea of saving and retiring early, but the one hiccup I see (and sorry if this is grim) is if you die earlier than expected. I’d be worried that I would minimize lifestyle and fun for retirement at 50 but I’d die at 49. How about a way to work 9 months out of the year and retire/travel/relax for 3 months? This way you guaranteed your dreams/etc. are fulfilled
