lmao at thinking $375k/year is a dead end job

Incorrect. The sign is not what the comp is now, but potential growth for higher comp, 3, 5 years down the road
Really depends on what skills you want to develop and the scope of the role (ie if it’s origination-only or if also includes some IR / capital partnering activities like corralling coinvestors). Assuming it’s origination only, you’ll likely (a) develop tactical market sense (which assets are available and/or which would make a good platform / add-on for an existing portco), (b) build and maintain relationships with execs and other investors (GPs and LPs) and (c) get first-hand exposure to how a deal is run by your firm. Might be telling you what you already know, but food for thought.
Think taking this role will brand you as an originator, so if you want to be a deal guy/gal or a company builder, may not be the best step over the long run

Agree with all of this. Thanks!

To clarify, are you referring to some kind of specialized role where you only originate and do zero portfolio management? Usually there’s a combination of both (more origination in MF and more balanced in LMM/UMM)
Do you mean roles outside of PE that you can transition to? I.e. exit from PE with only origination experience?

Sounds like sourcing
The role essentially feels like a business development role, primarily focused on origination and sourcing potential acquisition opportunities. Also responsible for determineing which areas of the value chain are most attractive and building an industry segment thesis….then following through with sourcing deals.
Feels pretty dead end to me, with difficult in moving into other firms or investing roles in the future. But curious on others perspectives
I know someone who did this for Serent - he left to go back to IB after a year.
BD as a full time role is becoming increasingly common. As there is ever increasing competition for assets, it’s a key role to develop angles early and manage banker interaction more holistically / professionally
