My sweet summer child… you have no idea what awaits to you
I agree it’s definitely not the easiest, but it’s insane to me that people say you’re thrown BS stuff and your EM magically fixes everything. I was owning pieces of a workstream and then an entire workstream and independently expected to execute deliverables, set up and execute expert calls, and have not just a first pass but iteratively own slides within 6mos of joining. Definitely agree though that EM is probably the hardest/worst part of consulting
McK teams can run super lean though. I have layers of cushion 😎
Oftentimes when I send my EM my slides and go to take a nap, I’ll awaken to a completely reworked deck. Like magic.
When does the cushiness end?
Sounds like your EM is a good guy/gal. Sooner or later you’re going to hit reality
That reality being….your slides are trash 🤣

Absolutely, yes

Nah being an analyst was like having a college student job. Anyone could do it as long as you sort of tried
Just taking notes, scheduling meetings, being mostly silent on calls and doing a first pass at slides/deliverables. Ez work
No…

Analyst is basically a role where people just give you work to do, but don’t actually expect you to do anything right, three days before they actually need the work done so they can just do it themselves in 4 hours. All with the hope that what you learn as an analyst will make you a semi useful senior and manager. Aka it’s a made up role to give you space and time to learn

You are in for a rude awakening when you hit Mgr...

Consensus in my experience/network has been that SM is the worst by far. SC is usually viewed as the best role.
SM can be amazing and/or very, very challenging
No. Senior Manager/Director/whatever your firm calls the role before Partner/MD is always the hardest and worst.

Analysts where I work drive a lot of the analysis end-to-end, which can be challenging

100% P/MD.

You Was Forreal My Slave…?
I find it incredibly difficult to be a 1st year analyst having to act as a senior. I would find the work easy if I just worked my level and not my level + the levels above me.
I think you should be sharing some of the responsibilities with another senior as a staff 2. (In this case staff 2 is the level below senior) but a staff 1 with 4 months of exp acting as a senior? Different story and terrible exp imo.
Lol! No.

It's kinda like a weed out class in college. There's a lot of bullshit, but keep in mind all you have to do is pass. You don't have to get an A. Given getting an A here results in a faster promotion.

Only after Intern and assistant to the regional manager
It depends what you mean by "toughest".
Does it require the highest level of effort? Usually, yes.
But you also have zero actual responsibilities to deliver on the work or make sales.
I dont think it is the hardest in terms of the work but it probably could be considered the hardest I’m respect to the first time in the real world.
Huge learning curve to understand your subject, communication styles, presentation skill refinements, etc.
