I’m a big fan since I was young

like

As an avid surfer and former skateboarder, looking forward to seeing them televised.

I‘m a serious amateur Weightlifter and it’s huge for fans of the sport. We talk about it constantly and really look forward to it

I think a lot of fans are just people who casually follow the events they really only see every 4 years in the Olympics. IE: Gymnastics or Track & Field.

like

I realize this is an incredibly western-centric thing to say but it’s just not as fun when nothing is live. Normally though i’d still watch some… but this year it just seems so dismal and like it never should have happened because of Covid.

like

I love it every time, get really excited and sense of patriotism, but agree with the others - when you can’t watch the events live, it loses a little bit of its luster. I’ll def watch the big moments replayed though, like gymnastics, sprinting, and swimming (and I’ll try to shield myself from hearing the results first!)

like

I love watching elite athletes perform in almost any sport. I’m not a fanatic but I’ll leave it on in the background usually.

like

Why watch yesterday’s events tonight 🤷🏼‍♂️

like

I love the Olympics! I have been cycling through the app and tv networks and so far today have watched: women’s soccer, 3x3 basketball, some boat stuff, dressage, and now swimming. I love watching the best of the best and learning about sports that I don’t usually watch.

like

Some events lure me in but usually it’s just on in the background on TV throughout the day.

like

Also have it in in the background

I was a big fan but this year’s has me disinterested for the first time I can remember.

like

yes - i love the olympics

like

I love them - it feels hopeful and cheerful. The music and other atmosphere pieces are consistent and it reminds me of so many happy times watching while growing up.

like

Yeah- I’ll turn it on in the background and then maybe watch a few things- USWNT or the men’s basketball.

I have very mixed feelings about the Tokyo Olympics and the Olympics in general. 1. Japan has a very low vaccination rate and is struggling with Covid. It is irresponsible to be flying people there right now from all over the world. 2. The athletes train for years for this dream, so I do sympathize with their disappointment were the Olympics to be cancelled. 3. The cost to host the Olympics is an insane burden in even normal times. It's such that there's no way this Olympics was going to be cancelled because of all the $$ invested. When a sporting event gets so costly that even a global pandemic can't cancel it, that's a big problem. The Olympics are a racket. 4. I know the results many hours before they air thanks to NBCUniversal's grip on the broadcast and even internet streaming rights. I miss living along the northern border and being able to watch the CBC's live coverage.

like

Also, I can't stand all of the produced content packages that make up practically as much air time as the competitions themselves, at least in prime time. At least Michael Phelps isn't in this Olympics.

I live in Tokyo and I hate it with passion.

like

As a side thought, do you guys think there has been less Olympic content produced this year? It could be a total fluke but I didn’t cut anything for the Olympics… not even branded web content or anything focusing on any of the athletes. This is pretty unusual based on past years. Did brands spend less due to general covid concerns, production being more difficult, fears about cancellation, etc? Again, could just be a coincidence but I’ve been wondering.

like

I feel the same: like I barely knew they were happening. Much less hype.

like

I loved it for years, probably until my early 20s. I even went to watch live as a kid when it was in my family’s country. But now I’m not really interested anymore.

like

I’ve never been a big watcher and with Covid I’m even less interested.

Yes

I like winter better than summer. But even then. Unlike sporting events I actually care about, I never make any concerted effort to watch or follow the Olympics. Maybe ill try to see what they do with skateboarding, but that's about it.

Not proud of it, but I was hooking up with a co-worker/friend pre-COVID. I left the state when wfh started and we still talk every day, but nothing romantic. He made it clear at the beginning that he didn’t want to date because we’re co-workers. Stung a bit when I went on a dating app this morning and saw his profile. The rational part of me knows we’re only ever going to be buddies and that if he actually wanted me, then he’d make something happen. Looking for advice on how to get over this.

I’m in second trimester. I just came from my grandfather’s funeral, outside. My aunt was around her 2 siblings last week that had Covid and she hasn’t been vaxed. She hugged me and mom (4 weeks from her last chemo session) and only told us about her siblings after. I’m so mad. I guess I’m just venting but the potential complications for the baby, me, and my mom make me worry. Any comforting words?

Does anyone know of where to find remote part time work opportunities for older Indian women? My mom was a part-time after school teacher but has not been doing that due to covid (dad is high risk). She’s a great teacher though and she’s trilingual (Telugu, hindi) - anyone know of where to find opportunities?

I feel terrible for seniors/elderly trying to get Covid vaccine appts online. I am splitting my time living between Florida and Illinois and signing up for the vaccine in either state is a nightmare for people who are not very computer savvy. I have been helping seniors who had problems figuring it out. If you have the time, reach out and help others. I have seen immense relief and a weight lifted when people get an appointment. Plus, helping others makes you feel good! 💪

Currently working at Accenture as a C (promoted Dec ‘19), but I know I ultimately want to make the jump over to Deloitte. I am on track to be promoted to M in the 2021 promo cycle and I know Deloitte would likely knock me down one level either way. Due to COVID-19, it seems like it doesn’t make sense to jump ship for at least another year while things get back to normal. Any thoughts on if it’s better to wait it out and leave after making M (but how long after?) or try to leave earlier? TIA
