Is anyone a 100% remote? I know it’s a great opp to be remote during the covid and flu season esp with a young baby (5 month old) but I can’t shake the feeling off that I’m missing HHs and just team events. Doesn’t help that I’m based out of a state where the majority of the team is not present.

I took my current job specifically because it was 100% remote. I love it and don't ever want to go back to the office. I was spending a fortune on babysitters and nannies while school was closed during COVID. I had to wear a mask while working in the office even though I'm vaccinated. It was just all too much. I figure after two decades commuting 1-2 hours each way to the office, it's about time I can WFH!

like

You mean temporarily or permanently? My team is still 100% remote with no plans of going back in the office. I’ve skipped the one or two HH’s my team has had because I’m not willing to put my baby at risk

like

I would think permanently most likely given that I’m in a different state and will have to fly in to attend events. Yes I don’t want to put baby at risk either which is why I prefer this arrangement, none of my team members are traveling too at the moment except for local HH and other networking events/ holiday party etc

So you are working and simultaneously taking care of an infant? That would not fly by us. If you WFH you work.

We have a nanny that comes in 40 hours/ week

100% remote here - I LOVE it! We do virtual happy hours. My husband and I both WFH and taking care of the kiddos has never been easier 🙌🏻

like

I’m fully remote and so is my whole office- tho a few people go in a few days a week. I don’t mind and prefer it with the kids schedule, especially because every other week one of them is snotty and I’d have to stay home anyway as a precaution.

My whole company is. I love it!

I was exactly like you. Baby was 4 months, permanently remote since whole team was in another state. And, yes, totally felt like I missed all the camaraderie that came with their in person stuff, and even the things they had in common or restaurants they talked about. It’s going to be alienating, honestly. I left the company and now work hybrid locally. Love it.

So most people are WFH for the next few months probably. Does anyone feel like they’re learning the same amount as a junior if things were normal (more hands on, direct interaction, normal production, etc)? Would you consider the 6-12 months of working from home as proper experience to push you to mid level? I want to advance to mid-level (🤑) but also genuinely am concerned that maybe I’m not learning the ins and outs that I normally would as a junior right now.

How do you divide your time between your kids? My second is an extra needy and demanding, high spirited kid. My first is laidback and easy going. I always feel like the eldest gets the short end of the stick and never gets enough of my attention even tho she’s always been more attached to me than my husband. She never gets one-on-one time with me as it is since her sister (now 2) is still super glued to my side. Any suggestions for juggling this? Or to ease the mom guilt?

5 years ago I had a crush on a girl. Things were so different then; we used to hang out, talking about things which were utterly random and I loved watching her smile. I ultimately fell for her and we started dating. I spent the best time of my life with her. 1 year ago today, I lost her to COVID. Still, cannot get over her. Looking at the desperation in this bowl, I just want to say - hope you find the one, but this is not the right way. Desperation doesn't appeal anyone.

Serious question. I constantly see income reports published that indicate only ~5% of the US population make over $250k, ~1% over $500k, etc. Is this actual W2 reported income? Do corporations have ways to compensate individuals so that their total comp does NOT show on their W2 (RSUs, Deferred Compensation, etc.)? Reason I ask is because I see great wealth all around me. I feel like these reports do not always tell the whole story in terms of TC & investment income.
