OP, these are obviously brutal times. As partners we face unique challenges. We’ve just been financially hammered (to the point where bills may be an issue for some). Each of us are responsible for maintaining the financial lifelines of all of our team members in the middle of a crisis ... not to mention being cooped up in our homes. Our people are suffering as well. But the truth is this will pass. We will come out if this. And our lives will return to a more normal state. Our people will get their lives back. And the firm will roll on. Keep your chin up, say some of the really ridiculous catch phrases our leadership pretends are inspiring (e.g. Together, for better, with courage ... etc) and remember, a whole bunch of people understand and identify with what you’re feeling. You’re not alone in this. Same goes for every one of our people.
I’m glad that I’m not alone and that others are feeling the weight on their shoulders from worrying about their teams and how to keep all of these people employed...while managing personal stress.... this isn’t something we’ve really talked about at Accenture at the leadership level. We’ve talked about team morale. Not p2p support though. This thread is reassuring.
There is certainly plenty to be anxious about. That said, for the good of our firms and our people, I think we need Partners to be hitting the phones / VCs as much as ever now - otherwise how do we get business going again and keep our teams employed?
If the work you were doing before isn’t selling now, can you adapt to help with any offerings relevant to COVID response?
And as for the anxiety itself - there are no silver bullets, but try meditation.
I feel the same way.
Is your anxiety business related or personal? Sorry to hear this OP. Happy to talk if helpful.
Business related... with projects pausing I don’t know how to sustain myself in this environment, starting to do my own scenario planning... would love to know how others are thinking through this... I don’t feel comfortable sharing my fears with my peers.
Also you may not feel you “need” it, but talk therapy is an option (there are various virtual / phone versions), and more of us should probably be considering it.
Don’t abandon ship.
Love that perspective and definitely rowing/steering the ship with. The destination just seems far
I can’t afford to take a sabbatical but have the same anxiety ridden routine
