Is anyone else feeling extra anxious about starting this year? I’m almost 20 years at the same site, and I have fears that I’ve lost my skills while going through the pandemic. I’m scared I won’t be able to classroom manage now that classes will be back to full sized and that I will have a mask on.

I feel scared because I am not excited. I want to be excited, but I am actually dreading school. I don't even know why. I have woken up with gut wrenching anxiety every day for the past two weeks. I hope it passes. I have never felt this way before starting a new year.

Every teacher I have spoken at our school site expressed to me that they are also nervous. We are not alone with that feeling. I teach 1st grade, but I feel that our first few days should be more on having conversations with our students so they remain calm and in turn our knowing that they are, we are as well. Just talk about how they are feeling, your goals as a classroom or campus. Let them know that you are all a team and they will be fine. This will make you feel better too. ❤

Hey fellow math person! I’ve only been at my site for 12 years, but yes!!! I am nervous. I’m always nervous, actually, but I still feel like we’re in a state of flux where recommendations keep shifting. For me, I think it’s the continued uncertainty that has me on edge.

Thank you! Same here, fluctuating recommendations. I’m trying to do what has helped to keep me safe.

I know the feeling… I felt that too, but it will come back to you. I know that because it’s coming back to me poco a poco…hopefully in full before the 16th…

I'm so stressed about it! I taught in a mask all last year (we NEVER closed), and it was an annoyance, not a problem. If you end up eating your mask a lot, they make spacers to give your mouth more room.

like

HSMT1 that was us too… we did in person in the morning & DL in the afternoon. It was exhausting, repetitive, and it got to where I couldn’t tell what day it was!

You’ll be okay. If you are nervous, your students are just as nervous at how to be students again. You will find your way together and there is nothing wrong with having a good laugh if you forget something or make a mistake.

We’re pros! It’s second nature to us, like riding a bicycle. You do know how to ride a bicycle, right? JK (Please don’t be offended, I’m just joking about the bicycle riding)

Of course it’s second nature. This year we have an additional challenge which we have no control over.

Has anyone had the conversation on how we get Ss and Ts ready for returning in the fall? I’m not talking about mask usage, hand washing times, physical distancing in classrooms, etc. I don’t think we can expect Ts and Ss to come back and just hop right into academics. Need sometime to process together, get some SEL, be face to face social again, etc. Just wondering if districts out there have gotten a head start on this task.

Currently pursuing a MBA, and am deciding which focus areas to take. I am trying to pivot from UX design to product in tech. Ideal sector: FinTech Current sector: Mobile Gaming Related sectors: Entertainment, Edutainment, e-Commerce, Social Aiming at head of product or head of design as long term goal. If only 2 focuses, would you pick Business Analytics, Digital Marketing, Entrepreneurship and Strategic Innovation, or Global Challenges in Business? Advice appreciated!

I’d love some help thinking through this. I’m currently renting for $1600 base ($1800 total) and live in the least desirable part of town, and expect it to raise to about $2k/month. I was planning to buy my first property in the city and Airbnb part of it, but it will take me about a year to save up the cash (~$500k starting). Eventual goal is to move more rural but trying to build to FI. I found a property in my ideal dream location for $280k but it needs work, and can’t Airbnb it. Continued
