Agreed. At our firm attorneys and clerks w kids can work from home. Staff w kids needs to go into the the office regardless. Let the staff speak up on their own - they will. Many times they’re much older than we are and will put up with much less sh*t than us !
Many also have a lot more pull than we do, lol.
We’re trying to get our admin out but we weren’t prepared technologically. Attorneys can WFH if they want. Part of it is just getting everyone they can out of the offices even if it’s imperfect. Which sucks for some. I think we’ll eventually close but IT is still figuring it out.
We’re not in a public transport heavy area, so almost everyone drives. We’re eventually going to go to skeleton and then out I think. Just gradually.
Yes. The secretaries aren't able to work from home, so the partners required them to come in. I told them in no uncertain terms that I think the distinction is ridiculous. My partner appreciated it and got them laptops etc to work from home.
Tbh I'm a 1st year from the Netherlands and things seem to be a lot less... hierarchical here. 😅
I feel the same way. Our management committee sent out a very tone deaf email with a "policy" that basically meant all attorneys should work from home and everyone else should show up, unless they are high risk or have been confirmed exposed. One in a series of missteps they have made this year.
Yes, and my paralegal told me they held a paralegal meeting where they told them they were required to buy laptops to work from home and the firm would even sell them laptops but regardless they could not go below their billable hours- seems extremely wrong to me to now require them to have laptops and not simply provide them with one, but I am likewise too junior to say any anything.
