Is anyone else just weirdly neutral about this job? My reaction when someone asks me if I like my job is the same reaction I would have if someone asked me if I like my garbage disposal. Just totally neutral.

My group at my firm is great by biglaw standards. It’s still unpredictable and demanding, but I have not experienced any of the horror stories others have. I like the people I work with, which motivates me to do a good job and be helpful, I just don’t really care about the work at all.

I feel you 100%! No horror stories, but definitely not my passion.

Anyone other staff feel like the biggest contributor to stress during busy season isn’t the workload. It’s the lack of support or help while you’re just thrown into the deep end not knowing how to swim? In-charges, especially the newly promoted ones are either hit or miss or they’re way too busy with their own work. I almost feel like I’m ready to quit because no job is worth the mental health sacrifice.

What is considered a “large” caseload in employment litigation? I work at a large L&E boutique law firm and handling about 14-15 active litigation cases in state/federal court or arbitration. Some of these matters are multi-plaintiff and multi-defendant cases, but none are class actions. This does not include any matters I am handling in the charge stage or in pre-litigation. Not sure if that’s a typical caseload or not?

Is it okay that I’ve been a slow junior as we’re hours away from closing? I’m trying to be proactive and available to cross things off the list but I’m SLOW: takes me long enough that they do it themselves (even though this wasn’t an issue earlier in the deal) and even on quick tasks or emails, they respond to it before I can click send. There’s also so much about closing that I don’t understand and I feel like I’m bothering the higher-ups on the team whenever I ask. *end anxiety post*

The managing partner of my office likes to make jokes about Covid now that it is “over” (either in small group convos or speeches to the office). My dad died from Covid, and I honestly feel like it’s so insensitive for him to make these comments when he knows that I lost my dad to it. Our office isn’t that big, and I don’t think many people forget being told that someone they know lost someone from Covid. It has made me consider leaving because of it, but the economy isn’t great.

Started at a new big law firm almost five months ago. Had to ask the partner I report to for more work today for the first time since I started. I feel like a failure. Is this a normal scenario?

Two of my really good friends at work have had their work dry up in the past few months (because of the Rona). I'm like two months ahead of them on hours, and they're worried about not making their minimum billable requirements.

Feel sort of guilty and try to avoid talking about hours with them. I'm just hoping the firm doesn't give them trouble...

Position is def non-cookie cutter/lockstep so would really appreciate impressions on salary (500?) and signing bonus (?? no recruiter or referral so I’m thinking that $ at minimum on the table?). Been going round in head so long I need fresh eyes!
