Go for a walk. Seriously. It will help out a lot.
I live in Manhattan. It’s doable. But yes, watch out for idiots.
I was laid off a couple of weeks ago and know I’m not going to be able to find another job during this. I’m also a solo parent and have no savings (lost savings in 2008 due to crash trying to save my house unsuccessfully and then recently had to pay for a two year divorce trial which cost me 136k). So. I’m pretty screwed. But. I can only worry about what I can control. I could get lost in anxiety and fear. But that won’t help me or my children. So agree with other posters. Exercise. Limit news. Meditate if you can. We will get through this. It will suck. But let’s just be there for each other. Focus on your health, both mental and physical. Mostly...turn the TV off and stay off of Twitter. You can do this.
Yep, extremes of either direction is never a good idea. That can apply to everything honestly haha 😂
I'm worried about my parents and my job security mostly. I don't feel paralyzed yet. I know if I don't do my job then it's just going to be worse off for me. That's mostly what's keeping me going.
I feel the exact same way.
I’m less concerned about getting the virus than I am about the collapse of society. Stockpiling TP and buying guns during week 1 is a bad sign.
Hi crazy guy again. Sharing some useful information if anyone can help share: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1x9KBoj5IbwGRWvCrSfjOA_7uByi36369X7qU_F5tZi8/edit?usp=sharing
Hey OP, I’ve been there. It’s taken me a year to get out of paralyzed mode and into living again. When you’re feeling it that intensely, it’s important to remember that the rational mind isn’t going to be able to come through right now. The best thing to do is find ways to calm the nervous system and get the body out of fight or flight. Movement, breathing, and bringing your body into the present helps. I run a dry brush over my arms and legs and have a hot cup of tea. Some people put their hands under hot or cold water. Some stretch. These things can be small. Don’t force yourself to go “zen” and mediate if you’re in this place, unless you know it works for you. Don’t force yourself to do anything that doesn’t feel right. Just take it slow and treat it as a body based issue to begin. Then, once you’re feeling more grounded, let the mind come into play. Remind yourself of things that are true. You are here, you are breathing, you are okay. These are things that help in the moment. For the long term, finding a therapist would be huge if you don’t already have one. Mine saved my life.
Also remember- this is a normal reaction to the world we’re living in right now. Every feeling must pass and you’ll get through this. I’m rooting for you!
I second everything SC1 said. Take it slow and focus on getting a steady footing. Anxiety is rough, but the people who go through it understand and we are here with you.
As difficult as it is, I would take some time away from the news. Read a good book, exercise or watch a show that’s light and comforting to you. I’m trying to designate set times a day to catch up on news, otherwise it can really be debilitating.
Try and exercise. It’s the only thing that makes my anxiety go away.
I cannot overstate the difference in my mental health on days I go for a morning run vs. days I just start working. It is key for me, especially now.
We are being pushed to move forward with annual reviews via video chat. I don’t feel that people are in the right headspace to receive feedback right now.
Yeah that’s just weird. People need a break right now.
I limit news, go for multiple walks a day (actually trying to aim for 10k steps during this), run, distract myself with lighthearted movies and books, play card games with my partner, talk to friends, and keep reminding myself if I just stay home I’ll limit my exposure. Kinda a “just keep swimming” type of thing because if you let yourself dwell too much you’ll work yourself into a frenzy. So stay busy!
Most therapists are taking patients and holding sessions via FaceTime or something similar. Mine uses Doxy. If you’ve ever considered seeing a therapist, now is as good a time as any.
Yeah, same here. It would be kind of strange if they didn’t.
Can’t echo enough the exercise thing - keeps me grounded during a normal week and has been immensely helpful in keeping a semblance of routine now. When everything else seems to be screeching to a halt keeping your body moving feels like progress every day.
Try meditation
1000% this. Nothing gets you through uncertainty like learning the art of letting go.

Personally I’m hoping this can be a time that ushers in more empathy in the workspace and nudges all of us to have more interest in how our co-workers are doing. I’ve dealt with grief and depression while trying to work in the past and being honest with my co-workers actually made it easier for me to perform.
Got laid off two weeks ago, so the pandemic had put anxiety into over drive. Even with exercise and healthy communication, I’m terrified I’m not gonna be able to find a job in the near future. I can’t imagine places hiring during a pandemic, and this shit is far from over.
Hey I have anxiety in general so I definitely understand what you’re going through. I do yoga stretches. Lots of good YouTube vids that can help. I also read for about 45 minutes a day and chamomile tea. Try to stay away from coffee and just try to FaceTime family everyday if needed. It’s been helping me get through. The news is negative so limit it only watch to stay informed on important things.
I hope this helps and know you feeling this way is normal, you’re not alone!
Fellow YWA-er, she's awesome and majorly got me through my last anxiety/panic rough patch!
Sammmmmeeee why are we working?!? Money is irrelevant rn!
I’m constantly anxious
Where does everybody excercise...the gym??? Used to go to NYSC in Grand Central. Think that’s a good idea now? Place was always mobbed.
Stairs in your building if you have them. Or your Nordic trainer lolol!
My resting heart heart rate is up 5bpm. And I can't think straight.
