My wife is. She’s counsel at a V50. Works 4 days a week. 9-6 is typical. Weekend work only 1-2 days per year. Fully remote. Fund formation. Only works the hours and matters she wants to work. Insane flexibility. I lasted 10 years in litigation myself and genuinely enjoyed it, but am happy to have left. But she has the best gig in BigLaw. Finding another job that pays counsel salary and this level of flexibility would be nearly impossible.
What firm is this?
I am part of DLA in LA and it’s honestly very accommodating (plus they just announced match) Very busy but the partners are nice/supportive and I just don’t think the grass is always greener (I actually started in-house then went to a boutique). I know they are hiring in NY and I believe the corporate team is generally happy there as well and is hiring. Feel free to DM if you want more info.
Went from V30 to V20 (or Chambers Band 1 to Band 2) restructuring group. I’m in it for the long haul. It’s a grind for sure but once you get on the back end of the junior associate BS (and assuming you actually like the practice of law) I think it’s pretty rewarding. The key is to select a group that you actually find stimulating, AND to have buy-in from the partners you’re working with. Be in a space where they want you to succeed just as bad as you do. I’m sticking it out because no other forum exists for the high-caliber restructuring work we do. It’s exciting and engaging and I want to make partner/do this for the long haul.
