Is anyone here familiar with Cargill? A recruiter reached out to me from there for a fully remote position in the global communications realm. Role sounds cool but would love to gain some candid insight about the company if anyone has any.

Cargill recently fought a case in the Supreme Court involving child slavery in Africa. Big agricultural companies as a whole are pretty morally bankrupt, but that being said Cargill is a very successful company otherwise

Wow! Thanks for sharing.

Massive company that pays well for being in industry. Hard to say what work culture is like because of its size so it would really depend on your team. As others have mentioned it’s a big, if not the biggest player in the agro business. Monsanto is the big agro name people tend to hate on but Cargill should be in that same conversation. Both companies do some great things as well as some some not so great things. If you know any farmers ask them to give you some info, I’m sure they’ve dealt with them.

Thanks so much for that insight! Super helpful.

My dad has worked there for 20+ years. One of the largest, if not the largest, private company in the world

Have a family member who has worked there their entire career and has always been treated well. That said, Cargill is often considered right on par with Nestle in terms of moral/ethical questionability. So there’s that.

Nestle tried to privatize water in Africa... kids were dying of thirst and dysentery from dirty water and nestle came in and hoarded it

They still a private/family owned businesses... The kill an multi million multi year contract with Accenture for which is my understanding over a personal dispute. Probably gossip i was just an analyst with Accenture when that happened. That is all i know about them

Had a previous colleague of mine move to Cargill for a few years. I had never heard of them but always thought they were respectable bc this colleague was a TOP dog at my old firm, like #1 analyst in our class who left bc he wanted to do more strategy. Always made me think of Cargill as a really good firm. Sorry that's about all I know

Appreciate your insight

not much to add other than that they are one of the largest private companies, mainly in agriculture and trading of commodities. should probs know more since their hq is down the street from me.

I love them. Was with them in college and after years in consulting they are the best people and the best run company I have encountered. Culture is world class, but they do like to relocate you every two years. Downside is leadership roles are in MN which is a deal breaker

Luckily the role is remote and I’m based in DC, cause I would neverrrrr move to MN 🥴 lol. Thanks for the insight!

Seems boring IMHO

My company’s new hybrid working model was finally announced. We’re in a high COL west coast city, but not tech so pay is mediocre. Option A is office/wfh combo. The office downsized, so hot desking 3 days, WFH 2 days. No stipend for supplies, internet, phone. Option B- We can apply for FT remote if we move, but will get a paycut for lower COL areas. No raises for higher COL moves. Still no stipend. Multi-billion $ company, did great bc of the pandemic. How mad should I be?

I’d like to apologize in advance as this maybe a touchy topic for certain folks. For those that have been in the Big 4 for sometime now (i.e. was hired before this covid induced hiring spree over the past couple months), are you concerned that your market value would decrease as a result of the firms hiring people left and right? In other words, the recruiting has been excessively relaxed now compared to when there was intense competition.
