Is anyone here friends with their fellow colleagues? I started a remote job several months ago and no one goes into the office. We see each other over zoom and have the occasional group meeting in person. I’d like to get to know these people better and grabbing lunch or a coffee is doable but I’m wondering what has worked for others in a remote world?

I’ve struggled with this too. I’m good friends with some people from my last job - but I met all those people pre-pandemic when we were in the office every day. I’ve struggled to connect with people in my current role.

like

I’ve set up weekly virtual coffees with the people I like at work. We do little work talk and mostly use it to gossip. And then we do bi-monthlyish lunch with a group of us.

We had an offsite retreat that made a big difference. Just having several days of in person meetings and dinner (plus some late night drinking adventures) made a huge difference in our remote team dynamic. Could you all do something like this?

like

This is the way. Even if you aren't able to do an offsite retreat, could you suggest that everyone on your team goes into the office on the same day and then schedule dinner/drinks afterwards.

I’ve struggled with this most of my career. As a (older) millennial lawyer I find that I have very little in common with my often much older colleagues. I’ve tried, organizing zoom happy hours and such at my prior firm and that was fun, but now I’m in house with a small legal dept and I feel like most of my colleagues here have no personality outside of their identity as lawyers, which is not how I am. Good luck though, hopefully you can find some ways to connect!

I would be joining Barclays in Nov 2022.
As per my communication with the team, once a week we need to work from office.
Can anyone tell me if Barclays can allow WFH or instead of once every week can we work for one entire week and then take WFH for next month?

Hey people, I’m looking to get some ergonomic tech for my new job , where they are giving me a MacBook Pro. Does anyone have suggestions for a mouse and an external keyboard? I have a set that I use for my current computer, which is a Lenovo thinkpad, but not sure it will be compatible. I have multiple herniated discs , so trying to be set with my wfh station before starting 🤞

Offered a promotion where I countered for a higher rate and remote work. The firm reported that my counter offer was going to take weeks to discuss, but I wasn’t “asking for an arm”. Two weeks later they approved the initial offer without consent and against my written request to hold off until negotiations concluded. Now, I’m told that my actions have fractured the relationship

I am being criticized for my self respect to ask for my worth

The job search has been long but I am motivated

Thanks :)

Now we are rolling out a new plan that you just need to be near an office but only go in a few times a year for specific things. There is an office close that wouldn’t require me to move and I’d prefer to work there given the situation but HR is still insisting I’ll eventually need to move. This is so silly 🙃

Need a sanity check here.

When I joined my current company, we were on a quarterly bonus structure with guaranteed payouts each quarter. This was, in fact, how the recruiter said he could meet my salary request.

The company just announced we are moving to annual payouts only, with no payments for 2023 until May 2024. There are no raises happening.

This amounts to 12% less money in my pocket in 2023 plus inflation.

Is this standard, or should I be looking for opportunities elsewhere?
