Is anyone not yet seeing any downtick in hours or inflow of work due to the Coronavirus? I’m beginning to think my situation is an anomaly, though granted we’re still in the front end of this thing.

Still so busy. Everyone keeps texting “how u doing with quarantine” and posting pics of their boredom activities and I’m SO JEALOUS. I worked straight through the past weekend at home anyway and feel like nothing has changed except for needing to do more emotional labor for family members who keep wanting to “check to make sure I’m ok” (yes, I’m fine, this is literally indistinguishable from Wednesday of last week)

UGH

SAME!

M&A is drying up fast. I see very little in the pipeline. I had a good start to the year but now I’m worried about even hitting hours.

like

Same here.

I have some M&A that has been going on as usual over the past few days but I’m afraid that as soon as stakeholders are involved (or see we’re billing for that work) they will put all that stuff on hold.

I work in insurance defense, and from what I hear from the partners, during the 2008 recession we stayed steady as injured folks filed claims out of desperation for money. I take it with a grain of salt, but it’s the hope I’m holding onto right now. I got a new file in today (from a loyal client), so that’s encouraging.

I’m still very busy. More than usual, really, but let’s see how long it will last. In Brazil the courts have suspended deadlines and most activities, so its bound to slow down at some point, at least in litigation.

like

I do think there is a decrease coming as in reality some courts are closing. This will mean less hearings and as such less preparation for these hearings to bill for. It really will depends on what stages of litigation you handle.

Just as busy. Transactional never sleeps

I’m almost the same as I was before, clients weren’t initially responding to court deadlines, but they seem to be realizing it’s not going away now. I can’t say what will happen next week, but for now it’s steady.

I'm still busy. Wonder how long it'll last.

Still very busy too w ongoing litigation- things will get delayed but it’s not stopping

Also still fairly busy and also wondering how long it will last.

Still busy. Real estate. Anticipating getting busier in the near term as landlords & tenants seek advice on obligations under their leases in light of the pandemic. Not sure once that settles down.

Still super busy. I’m in employment insurance defense. I’ve been handed 4 new cases in the past two weeks not counting the private client overload since the rona fiasco blew up. I imagine as the carriers get everything together more work will continue to come in.

To my insurance defense friends with dwindling assignments, fingers crossed that the work will pick up once the initial panic settles down.

THE ECONOMY WILL SUFFER.

And is suffering

Not busy, had multiple depos out of town cancelled and got a COVID-19 extension for filing an appeal. Was set to be slammed, instead billing 5-6 hours a day and that’s working ahead.

I still think this comment is so tone deaf. People are getting laid off all across the country.

I never do this but I need some objective advice. My wife is 5mo pregnant and my sister is getting married. Wedding was adjusted because of COVID but she set the date knowing I might not be able to attend as I’d have to fly there. Now I’m conflicted because if I attend, I’d have to quarantine for 2 weeks away from my wife and miss a couple DR appts. I’m her only support where we live. Would be stressful for her but I’m getting immense pressure from my parents to attend the wedding. Advice?

I was going to go for kid number two this summer, but then covid happened and I was laid off. Partner is in the film business and nothing is shooting until at least August. Thought I’d just have to postpone everything since neither of us is working and we have to do fertility treatments, but starting to think maybe should just go ahead and do it. I’m 38. I don’t think this is going to be magically better in six months. I’m probably going to be freelancing anyway, no one is hiring. Crazy?

So I have completely lost interest in my area of practice mainly because I haven’t been exposed to many matters (our team is really slow) and I am the most junior in the team. So billable work is never constant. I feel like this has impacted my interest and stagnated my growth. I am thinking of moving into a different area of practice that I’m interested in. Has anyone ever done this? I’m actually depressed and I really hate being given work now. I have ADHD. Please advise

It’s so nice that every agency laying off people, have those left standing (and other agencies) trying to hustle jobs for their unemployed friends, but there are also a ton of people who were unemployed prior to Covid...so no severance, job hunting lot longer, and not earning income for longer time...hurting even MORE due to quarantine.

I am tired. From past year, since this Covid has entered our lives, we (I & SO) came back to our hometown. I never thought living with in-laws for such a long period could be so tiring, frustrating, depressing, etc. I don't know why but I just don't get very good vibes from my MIL. She's so cheeky and nosey. I really tried adjusting, not overthinking anything.. but somehow she brings out the worst in me. I've never disliked anyone to this extreme. I'm not keeping well because of all the stress

How have other firms dealt with employees testing positive for COVID after reopening? I work at an Am Law 200 that reopened in June and has required all employees across all offices to start coming back in to work every day since then. We got notified that an employee in my office received a positive diagnosis but the office isn’t planning to close and doesn’t think contact tracing is necessary though the person likely still came into work every day last week while waiting for their test result.

I found a company I was really excited about working at. I applied for the job and went through 5 rounds of interviews. At the end they said I was OVER qualified and they want me for a different position higher up in the company. I was super excited they then had me go through 5 more rounds, 3/5 people were the same. The interviews mostly went "didn't you get the job, I highly recommend you? I'll just put you down as a 10". After those were done they told me I was UNDER qualified. Can't win!
