Yes, I’m doing so. Single in NYC. No point in being here and paying rent when you don’t get to enjoy why you are here (e.g. restaurants, culture, nightlife, etc.)

How much is your rent and where do you live also 1 BR or roommates?
Yes! The problem is everyone else here tells you you’re crazy for wanting to leave “the greatest city in the world.” I’ve done my time and I’m ready for something new! If anyone has any ideas on where to go next, I’d love to hear! Preferably somewhere warmer :)
And I left Chicago for New York ten years ago and have never looked back. I would never go back now. It’s an east coast thing. You can work in NY and live in westchester, CT or NJ. Yes, more expensive but yes, there’s a reason for that IMO.
I’m loving this thread. The mass exodus will bring lower prices for the New Yorkers that stay.
I’m actually moving into NYC this year - early 20s and rent is cheaper then ever
LOL cheaper than ever? Cheaper than 2021 maybe.
Doesn’t that seem a bit like a long term solution to a (relatively) short term problem? I’m not from NYC but I’m still looking for job opportunities there so that I can live there
CD 1 if you know where a copywriter could find any of those good creative jobs, I’m all ears 😃👂
Colorado is looking good
Wouldn’t mind the mountains and the activity though. A different pace than city life. I lived in the south, SC and Georgia prior. Gun toting pickup rednecks has everyone beat.

Boulder is looking good right about now.

It’s great, but it’s practically as expensive as Brooklyn. Denver’s way better unless you’re rich and retired. The commute to Boulder’s not terrible unless you live south of downtown.
Yeah good riddance. Cheaper rent for me.
Wife and I are moving away from NYC. Not too far from NYC but to PA. Less than a hundred miles away, less than half income tax

How much is your comp changing?
I've always been conflicted. I want to move back to my hometown because I like it there more than NYC. But from a career perspective, NYC is the best place.
It’s not New York specific. I left a city life a couple weeks before the stay at home orders. It was obvious what was unfolding and rural life is for me. I can’t even imagine being trapped in a shutdown city.
I was just wondering how many people who were planning on moving here will look to other places ( or cities) even after a year

My husband and I just closed on a house! We had been looking before the pandemic, but went to go look at houses just before mass closures happened and decided to move forward. We had our reasons for doing so before (ie, ready to move/“over” the city, want more room, more space for the same monthly cost we pay in rent, wanted to take advantage of low rates etc...), but the move to more remote work and the realities of what being trapped in the city are like have really solidified our decisions. Plus, we were able to negotiate well given the circumstances. I read this article as well and thought it was spot-on, at least for my experience.
