Honestly, if you can get the money you want as an associate, just take it. LA is a level with extra responsibility and minimal benefit (SA you start to see real benefits) but the Associate salary band is wide to the point that you’re unlikely to ever hit the top of it.
There are As with workloads and responsibilities commensurate with that of an LA and vice versa. The only thing being an A with an LA salary does is put you another level away from promotion to SA, and which is probably an unrealistic goal in your first year at the firm anyway. If you were on deck for that role, they would have slotted you into the LA title or hired you directly into SA anyway.
You’re overthinking this. If you like the work and they money’s good take the job. LA wasn’t even a title 10 years ago.
They don’t align perfectly. You can function as a manager at the Associate level. You’ll fine others who will say “lead associate is manager, and SA is SM,” but as mentioned, they don’t align perfectly, especially depending on what group you’re joining. What is your YOE and the scope of your non-client-specific job responsibilities? That will help understand if you have a case for LA. You’re not going to go from M at Accenture to SA at BAH
If it was an associate position, I would say jumping two levels to SA probably won’t fly, BUT if you can, I would shoot for SA cuz like someone said, there’s absolutely no benefit of going from A to LA except more responsibilities and one step closer to SA. Folks coming from Accenture also complain about bonuses. Leads don’t get bonus
Thanks everyone! Got it changed to LA and a pay bump in the process!
I’m L7 now at Accenture. I was an Associate at BAH back in Jan 2019. I would not accept a role as an Associate at BAH given you are L7 — if I were you. Happy to DM if you want and hope that’s helpful.
Looking at other responses —— I agree if you’re just looking for $$ and enjoy life, take the A level and chill. If you’re looking to move up and have aspirations of being at a higher level, there’s no reason to take a position lower than your current level.
I also find employers will give you more work and responsibility if they think you can handle it — and then withhold the appropriate title bump you truly deserve. So I personally wouldn’t see the point of not having the LA title if I’m doing all the work of an LA
Unless I’m missing something, $190k would be extremely high for an Associate, and still very high for an LA. I could it happening if you have lots of experience (maybe 15+ YOE?) and/or very niche technical skills. Am I the only BAH person who thinks this is high at those levels?

The A band tops out at around $220k, but as mentioned it’s extremely rare to be close to that number.
Do you have capture experience? If you haven’t led bids and proposals, it’s unlikely to get in as SA. But miracles happen at Booz Allen, which is a different beast. Your offer is extremely generous for Associate.
Manager is more “Senior Associate” at BAH.
I made same base as manager at Accenture as I did as an SA at BAH ($180k-ish). I’m a Principal now, and that’s equivalent to a Senior Manager at Big4.
100% incorrect.
I’m an L7 at Accenture now and I do not have the responsibilities one would expect from a BAH SA.
