If a creative is doing well at their job, it’s not necessarily an indicator that they’d be good at the next level. You kind of want them to just keep doing what theyre doing. Me. I’m talking about myself. I’m a terrible manager.
True, but I think they’re referring to the promotions from Jr to Midlevel and senior, not creative to creative director.
Creatives:
Account: “Wow, Mark really knows how to cc everyone on those emails, we should totally promote him.”
Sorry, I forgot about scheduling all those meetings. My bad
Yes have seen this at every agency I have been at , creatives are left behind in the dust
Its harder to evaluate creative work and success
I’ve thought about this too. I think it’s because account folks are typically more organized and type-a when it comes to putting together performance plans and building a case for their teams, which makes it easier to have proof to promote. It should definitely be something that is more prioritized across agencies to make sure people have growth plans and can see a future where they are.
It’s also because they need people on the biz with titles so the clients don’t automatically know they have a bunch of juniors handling all the day to day, but billing out as mid level peeps
Promotions are handed out like free candy in account. And creative is left to fight over who gets the wrapper.
They also tend to get paid less. So they need the jumps.
It’s more structured and prioritized compared to just about any other department
Account promotions are always happening right and left though. Even for people who started a year after me.
