Is coming to work with wet hair unprofessional? Same answer for all genders?

I only view it as unprofessional if you’re dripping. Other than that, it’s a sign of cleanliness.

I don’t like to put heat to my hair. It’s damaged enough with all the coloring I have to do since my grays are coming in at lightening speed (every two weeks) and I have thick, curly hair so it takes forever to air dry. My solution on the mornings I wash my hair… I turn the heater on in my car at full blast so by the time I get to work it’s not noticeably wet at all. Work smarter, not harder. Lol. 😂

My drive is about 20-30 mins so it’s a perfect timeframe. But if I ever see it too wet, I do the same, throw it up in a clip and within a few hours take it down.

I’m kind of shocked so many people find it unprofessional and suggests it could be poor time management. It’s not anyones business how you manage your time before work. The important part is that the employee shows up on time, adheres to dress code, and maintains professionalism. If the dress code says “no wet hair” then it’s an issue. Otherwise- not our place to judge them or their time management skills based on how they fixed their hair.

Well, if you're a black woman, there's a style called "Wash n Go" that looks like your hair is wet but it's just the gel

like

As a black woman, that’s what I thought of when I saw this question. However, for black women our natural hair can already be perceived as “unprofessional” so I’m not sure if a wash n go would make it worst

I’m female. I’ve done it but I do think it can be perceived as unprofessional to some - especially if it’s wet and down. If I do it I throw it up in a bun of some sort.

My opinion the perception could be poor time management, but it really depends on the type of work performed. Customer Facing VS Back Office VS Field

like

For me it depends on the level of wet. If it’s dripping/looks like someone basically ran out of the shower and got to work, then yeah. If it’s just damp, I don’t think it’s a big deal.

like

Personally I don’t find it unprofessional if it’s not all over the place but there’s a lot of people who might.

like

This is a toughie. I think it really depends on the job/organization...as well as the generation you're from... as to how this is perceived. For some, it could be viewed as you having issues managing your time and, therefore, unprofessional. Others may see it as you being carefree and not beholden to the perceptions of "the man", a desirable trait in some sectors.

Had a bit of a fright this morning. While I was walking Rue we crossed paths with a guy with two huskie mix dogs and they started barking at rue... we just kept walking by and then I heard the guy yell out and one of his dogs broke his leash and cane at rue. I kept my body between them until I could pick her up and at that point the dog backed off and the guy grabbed him. He asked if rue was ok but didn’t say sorry or anything 🙄 I was definitely more scared than rue, she was wagging her tail and pressing on to the park after....

Hoping to get my PHR in the next year or so. Outside of employer reimbursement, are there other opportunities for this to get funded? I know SHRM Foundation offers scholarships for the CP, but I am looking for PHR specific help. Thank you! :)

Hello fellow HR pros! I really need your opinions on HR certifications. I am deciding between PHR and SHRM-cp. I have read just about all there is online comparing the two and can not decide. My heart is telling me PHR, my mother in law (an HRBP) is telling me to go with SHRM, as it’s more widely recognized, more established and a larger network in general. I work for a 350~ company who is growing rapidly through M&A. Passions/interests are compliance, strategic vision, M&A, branding and culture

Any thoughts on the best certifications to get in order to help move forward? I have considered the CCP from World at Work, but it’s fairly pricey to get by the time you wrap up everything. I was looking at both SHRM-CP and SPHR. Everyone that I have spoken to has the SHRM, but that’s also only looking at individuals in a small geographic footprint and within 3-4 different companies. I was hoping to get some thoughts on this from others? Thanks

Meanwhile I just received a Director offer for a company with a 29% pay bump July 1.
