Is cover letter read or preferred for the major firms? 🤔 (I.e. McKinsey, Big 4, LEK, etc)

McKinsey does not ask for one and probably wont read it if you send it (source: im in the recruiting process rn) BCG however does ask for one tho. So it depends!

like

I also know that Deloitte asks for one :)

No unless specifically requested.

I had to write one for BCG not for the big4 I worked at prior

Ah ok ty I will work on that

Are you an MBA intern or college intern? I believe all MBB college hire require cover letter, experienced hires are optional / not required

like

Good luck in the process!

uplifting

I wrote one for BCG since they mandated it lol. I am curious if it was actually read…

like

True true

We request them and usually use them to decide between borderline candidates for interview slots

helpful

Thanks!

We don’t really look at them, resume much much more important

helpful

Thanks!

MBB does not read cover letters for MBA hires. McK does not read cover letters in general. Deloitte requests and reads cover letters. ATK also reads cover letters.

Thank you for the info!

Working as an audit staff in big 4 shared service centre. It's been 2 years. I really don't like what I do there, also it seems I won't like what I'll be doing there even after becoming senior. Thinking of leaving and joining industry once ACCA qualified. (One more paper left). But people around me discourage that growth potential and earnings in industry are way less compared to public accounting. I know that too but I still want to leave. I'd like to stick to core accounting. Thoughts pls

60M people need to be vaccinated. Offering them $1000 each would cost this country $60B. Realistically, you can get to half of that population — $30B. One booster shot for 250M people at 80% uptake — $200B. For $30B - $230B, we can end the pandemic in the USA. Worth it? Edited: add in $5M for an MBB to do this math and put it in a PPT for you. And $50M for a big 4 firm to implement, botch, reimplement.

For data science roles, senior (L6) at AWS or post MBA level (specialist track, so same pay as generalists) at MBB? Comp is 20% higher at AWS just to start. But maybe looks like MBB has better upside - solid path to promotion to manager level with solid comp increase. But worse WLB and it's unclear to me whether MBB data scientist on the resume is up to par with big tech data scientist on the resume. Coming from big 4 so I am considering brand so I can do better with future resume screens.

Hi Tax Bowlers, I'm an experienced associate (2yrs) in a Big 4 Transfer Pricing division. I have reached a point in my career where I am considering taking up a professional certification. Several colleagues recommended taking up either ACCA or CFA, however, I see little connection between these certifications and the work that I am currently doing, and what I plan to do in the future. What would you guys suggest? Would it be detrimental to my career if I did not take up any certifications?
