Is equinox worth it for the price? I’m 27 y/o making $75k a year but also have no debt, a healthy amount saved/invested, and paying $1450 in rent. I’m pretty into fitness and would probably go 4 days a week but want to make sure it’s justifiable as I’m not necessarily a high earner. TIA

I would say if you are into fitness classes, it’s definitely worth it and way more economical than a Barry’s, Soul cycle, etc. Or if you plan on showering there before work (when people start going back to offices), then having a really nice locker room could make it worth it. If you like to do your own thing/just need the equipment and wouldn’t shower there, then I would probably go with a cheaper option.

Depends how important your gym selfie aesthetic is to you.

Pre-pandemic it was 110% worth it for me. I had the passport so even though it was more than I wanted to spend, I went most days of the week and also took advantage of the lockers if I ever had a NYRR race & plans after. Also clutch if you are running around the city and need a nice bathroom. The classes were always solid & had me trying things in normally wouldn’t pay for (yoga, Pilates, barre), so I was never bored

Do you have other gym options?
Is it walking distance to your house?

Would only choose if it is the most convenient option and would save you transportation costs.

It’s really not….

crunch is solid

It is for me! The equipment and classes are best in class. I always end up working out at the location where I have errands or social plans after, so pretty much 4-5 times I am showering at the gym. I love it and wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Pretty much everything— multiple types of HIIT, spin, Pilates, yoga, barre, running, cardio boxing

It’s worth it for me

I go to blink and it’s fine

I also go to blink and don’t mind it now that the hours were extended. Some locations are better though - the one in LES has a small weight room compared to others I’ve been to, but can’t complain for $29 a month.

like

It’s not worth the price to me, but I have a membership because it’s the only gym in my area (within 10 blocks)

If you don’t go consistently (say 5x/week), I wouldn’t splurge on it.

Highly recommend Gympass if your company offers it. All the equinox’s are included (minus the exclusive ones like Hudson yards)- but it also includes other classes like soulcyle, solidcore, grit, Barry’s, and a lot others but deff worth checking out in my opinion!

I don’t see TMPL on the app so I’m not sure it’s included. But equinox and. life time are included which are prob the nicer general gyms on there. But mainly a good deal for the group fitness classes like grit boxing which is like normally $36 per class.

At your income, Suze Orman would say definitely not a smart expense.

I make over 2x that income and even I worry that I'm wasting money on the gym dues.

Hi all, I am currently making $160k/year and am looking at buying a $750k house 6 acres. I would put down about $300k and be able to get a mortgage at 5.5%. The property taxes and mortgage/HOA/insurance would come to about 4k/month. My paycheck deposited into the bank is ~3800 bi weekly (after health insurance/401k etc. is this wild or is this reasonable? Or somewhere in between?

Hi all! I’m new! I started the year off planning to save for a home for myself, then rates skyrocketed. So we’re holding off. Fast forward to the final quarter of the year and we were presented with the idea of a residential assisted living facility. The problem there is we’d still need to acquire property in order to run one. The only difference is the RAL would be a business and is already registered as such. Does anyone have any experience here?

Interested in buying a new toy. I don’t currently have a car or need one, but enjoy driving. I currently make about $120k (pre tax) w/ no debt and $3k monthly expenses. I may be moving into a role where I make closer to $180k.

Would appreciate suggestions for both income brackets. I’d like either a sporty suv (SQ5 equivalents) or a coupe.

Kinda confused when calculating IRR/MoM in LBO, especially when it comes to net debt. When buying the company, you are responsible for refinancing the exisiting net debt (ie the PE firm has to take out bank notes / equity to cover the net debt), but when you are exiting the company, you have to use your own proceeds (EBITDA upon exit x Exit Multiple) to pay off the remaining debt. Why would you having to pay off your own debt when exiting? Why won’t the buyer be on the hook for refinancing

Need advice. Moved into a new apartment in November. Before we even moved in, we noticed some of the windows had gaps in the sealing, leaking air. Landlord “fixed” some. We have increasingly noticed issues with the windows, including airflow, rain, and this morning, snow inside our unit. Previously our landlord gave us $100 off rent to compensate for heating bills. But the snow is too far. What rights do we have as tenants? He claims he’s replacing the windows in the spring but we’re skeptical.
