Experiential is eating TV budgets. they look down on you because you’re the future and they are the past.
Done a ton of TV. Some experiential. Lot of respect for experiential as it has a lot more moving parts. My hat 🎩 is off to you Sir or Madam
Why I left my last agency. The best part is when you tell them you do digital and they think just social posts.
It’s BTL. As thoughtful and interesting experiential can be, it’s still a highly localized experience. It’s impact is difficult to measure and it’s reach can’t touch something with a giant media buy behind it. It probably doesn’t help much, but anybody who has worked on a giant activation knows you’re not just a party planner.
I’ve been fortunate in that I’ve produced both. And while I really love concepting experiential and seeing it come to life, shooting TV is definitely more fun to produce
yeah, they don't understand most modern humans give fuck all about their commercials and want experiences. if you are wasting their time, they better be getting something out of it, or you better step.
no one is taking selfies with their commercials unless someone made their faces melt or made it a meme... they are basically your dad saying, back in my day...
and the commercials that do stick... are celebs, who often have their own creative group/writers/directors and most definetly do not need agencies. (well pepsi was an outlier and fucked that up... but i digress, great meme though).
Some of the best creatives I know have tons of lions with experiential only.
The problem is: most of people that work with experiential relies on tech only.
If you don’t have a creative concept behind, it doesn’t matter if the work has tele-transportation.
And yes. You are the future. Don’t listen to them. Just be awesome at what you do.
First of all, fuck them; you're collecting your check and (I'd assume) you're happy and satisfied. Do work that you're proud of, not to please some hoity toity award chasers.
Second of all, I think it's technically below because anything "above" is traditional, broadcast work and super generalized to reach the masses.
✌️ peace to you my friend.
Multi sensory lol. See also: immersive and highly engaging.
Yeah 👇🏼 sorry. I admit to being slightly snooty myself but if you like doing it, good for you.
These parties youre going to where people talk about the advertising they do sound terrible though.
Experiential is fun but nothing beats going on shoots
Unfortunately much experimental I’ve seen is staged for a case study and it passes like a ship in the night.
