I don't think there is one yes and no on this question, it's just provocative.
If you for the societal impact of benchmarking, FOMO, toxity etc. Yes then it is bad. .
But it also created thousands of jobs, market place for people without technical skills enabling them to sell, one of the biggest communication apps in the world (WhatsApp/Messenger) etc.
