Is flying standby just as simple as “if there’s a seat open on an earlier flight, it’s yours for free”? I have a flight coming up and I just looked at earlier flights that day and they are a lot of seats available. If I go to the counter of one of those flights before mine will I get on? My flight is about 2 hours later but was much cheaper, which is why I booked it. But if I could fly standby and get on earlier flight for free, that would be awesome. American Airlines flight for reference.

Yes! Just go to the ticket counter and ask. They should let you move up to the earlier flight if there is room :)

Depends on the airline. Without status, AA charges $75 to be on the standby list

Oh… you’re right. They dropped the $75 fee on Oct 1, 2020. They should probably drop the complimentary column from the table

Luggage delay claim question

I used Chase explorer to buy tickets for my vacation and luggages were delayed for a month. Per chase term I am entitled $100 a day for 3 days. But the claim agency chase used has been asking for airlines response, which has not came (2month+ now). I am concerned insurance will use this as an excuse to never compensate. Is there a good way to handle this situation?

Hotel phones don’t work because network is down and only local channels work on tv. Last night they had a huge leak in the lobby. They kept knocking stuff all night to fix it and then left a large floor fan running. I understand it’s tough reopening so don’t want to push, plus they upgraded our room at check in.
