How did you land a FAANG offer coming out of Federal?

like

I did not, just curious about those who have. I do know of federal consultants that managed to do so.

Petition to change FAANG to FAAMG? Who on this bowl is actually exiting to Netflix?

I prefer the term Big Tech, makes it much easier to group the tech juggernauts under that term than to keep updating an acronym.

like

Not in “FAANG” but I think compared to federal the hours are likely similar. Netflix and Amazon will be worse hours, but strategy at other big tech is typically 40 hour work weeks. Add in the perks and benefits and you have a pretty dope gig

Work stability isn’t dependent on number of products you work on. Honestly it varies by team even at the same company. I’d say for me I’ve been able to at least focus within an industry and business, which is different than when I was in consulting where I was always learning a new company/industry. So I can certainly go deeper now in my knowledge. BD varies too by company and team. My strategy team for example doesn’t do BD work, but there are certainly “strategic” roles at microsoft whose job is to create BD materials/identity opportunities to help the company grow its customer base within certain product teams

No it will be a culture shock. Federal work is grossly laid back/easy/non-chalant. Very few demanding clients. Strategy for any commercial business will be much more demanding. You will not be working 40 hours. Still great tho, much more rewarding and challenging

Federal strategy certainly exists. Before I exited to industry, I did several federal strat projects, ranging from helping an agency client come up with a new customer monetization strategy, to rearchitecting the entire way another agency generated and disbursed private sector grants, to doing a CBA on modernizing and moving an agency's enterprise IT portfolio to the cloud.

Recently, as you probably know, Dr. Seuss's estate chose to stop printing a few of his older books that had offensive racial stereotypes. There was huge backlash from white people, including teachers here, screaming "cancel culture!" Now we have a white guy who murdered eight Asians in custody, unharmed; while the police officer who killed an African American man for allegedly trying to pass a bad check is about to go on trial. Full disclosure: I'm white. But I'm still enraged by all this. You?

I am still learning and my sr manager is really making me feel stupid. And maybe its just my firms culture but I am on a new engagement and have no senior above me to guide me, the work stream is just me and my senior manager. She had asked me a question about the engagement as to why we are doing something and she got mad because this was the second time she was telling me. I know she is really upset with me but this is all new and I have no one to go to for regular questions. I feel so dumb

Incoming 1st yr BigLaw associate (V50 in a big city). I am curious if there are networking benefits to having expensive work clothes/accessories. I went to school on scholarship so I don’t have tons of debt, but my parents aren’t rich so much of the culture is foreign to me. I have hobbies I would rather spend my discretionary income on. But if having a Rolex or wearing Brooks Brothers suits would improve my standing w partners or if dressing cheaper would hurt, then I’d suck it up. Pls advise
