Is having too much “attention to detail” a bad thing?

Simplest way to put it: If you spend so much time fixing your hair to perfection that you don’t make it to the date, then you won’t get laid.

Apparently i have problem letting go because of too much attention to detail. I am only a first year so I don’t ever really think about delegation to another associate/paralegal. But it was apparently something i need to work on as per my performance review.

like

On the opposite end of the spectrum, I have terrible attention to detail. I am great at lawyering but miss obvious errors. You need to find a happy medium. Learn to let go. Like, it's not that big of a deal.

Context? I’ve never heard of that and can’t imaging dinging an associate for it.

As long as you’re not spending too much time on a task or turning things past deadline you’re fine. Better to have too much attention to detail than too little. Sounds like they didn’t have anything negative to say but the review form asked to list an area for growth.

What comments did you get in the performance review? Is the issue that you’re billing a lot more time than your peers for similar assignments?

Exactly, i am not yet sure what to delegate to a paralegal. In addition to that, in my experience- they always say they’re busy or are rude to me in their communication. I try to not give them any work to avoid drama. The arbitration world is already too stressful to deal with additional headaches.

What should the reaction be if the vaccines end up only being reasonably effective. Say we end up with a going forward rate of 100,000 dead per year. Or 50,000. Is there a point at which you say you were willing to take the risk and move back to a normal life (gatherings, restaurants, travel, etc.)? Recognizing they lockdowns can temporarily reduce counts, but not eliminate the disease.

I’m an analyst at a small(ish) REPE firm. We’re looking to unroll a pretty comprehensive Multifamily strategy and I’m tasked with hammering it out internally. Part of this is choosing a RE consulting firm to engage. We’re looking for people to gather a lot of data on various markets and create various economic reports. Also other data as needed to make a slide deck. Anybody have recommendations/personal experience at a consulting firm with Multifamily practice?

I’m a Civil Litigation Paralegal in Florida. I have over eighteen years of experience with a team driven vision and hunger to provide superb customer satisfaction

Hello!! I'm looking for a recommendation for a courier service that knows their way around the Miami-Dade County courthouse at 73 W. Flagler St, Miami. We are a business located in Seattle and need to pick up and record a certified judgment to obtain a lien. Even though this is a time sensitive matter, it's also sensitive in general, so looking for someone reliable. Thanks!

I’m a current biglaw associate thinking of lateraling to Quinn Emanuel. Looking for a more dynamic and trial-focused litigation practice, but I’m a little put off by how poorly Quinn seems to invest in support (tech, paralegals, etc) and generally seems to nickel and dime its associates. Curious how these issues feel for Quinn associates on a day to day basis.

Taking my first direct without any partner guidance, and I’ve never even been to a trial before (even for observation). Any advice on drafting outlines? Taking testimony generally? Thanks!

I live in FL and my AC has an internal leak, landlord refuses to replace it anytime soon. Electric bills are now $300 for an apartment. He isn't doing anything about his aside from coming to the unit to see the issue himself. What type of recourse can I get this is insane.

International arb associates: in general, when does your team have the (almost) final draft ready for the client's review?

On a related question, how far in advance do you start preparing for the hearing (opening, cross, etc)?

I ask because our team is never able to produce a final draft until hours past the deadline (yes, we never meet the deadline set by the tribunal). And our partners don't tell us who should prepare for what until like a week or a few days before the hearing.

I’m a 5th year associate and decided to stop taking a paycheck this year for a larger percentage of fees. I’m in a firm that gets a lot of high fee cases but has just 2 attorneys. I have about 20 good nursing home cases and am working out the contract. I don’t think I should pay more than 20% overhead with 40% fees on my cases considering Firm gets 100% of owner cases and 60% of mine. Granted, 99% of my cases came from Firm/Boss. I’ve made about $80K so far . Thoughts? Am I asking too much?

How much do your personal beliefs influence your work, and in what ways? For example, if you were a Bernie Bro, would you ever represent Trump or a Trump-endorsed/affiliated person/entity, and vice versa? Do you think you have an obligation to turn down work for a client whose beliefs you personally find repulsive? Or do you think your obligation is to set aside your personal beliefs and act in your client’s best interest regardless of how distasteful you may find them to be?
